Dancer-host Jhong Hilario surprised every one with his announcement of departure from the ABS-CBN noontime show It's Showtime on Wednesday, March 23, during the show's "Tawag Ng Tanghalan" segment.
The former Street Boys member told the viewers of the noontime show, "Last day ko na ngayon sa Showtime."
He continued, "Mami-miss ko kayo. Gusto kong magpasalamat lahat sa inyo. Direk Bobet [Vidanes], thank you so much sa lahat."
Jhong did not discuss the reason behind this decision but some of his fans guessed that it's because of the upcoming elections. Jhong filed his certificate of candidacy to run as a Councilor for the 1st district of Makati City last October 2015.
In an interview with PEP.ph, the It's Showtime host said that it was his father who inspired him to run for the position.
Jhong father is the outgoing councilor Virgilio Hilario who is now on his last term.
The 39-year-old dancer/host also said that his current priority now lies with politics.
The celebrity-turned-politician also said that it's his way of giving back for all the blessings he received while doing showbiz.
Jhong said, "It’s time to give back sa mga blessing na natatanggap ko.
