A lot of TV viewers are already excited for the 2016 version of Encantadia.
Have you ever wondered how this “requel” (remake + sequel) was conceptualized?
PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) had an exclusive interview yesterday, April 21, with Encantadia headwriter and creator Suzette Doctolero during the press conference of Once Again held at the GMA Network executive lounge.
PEP first asked, where did they conceptualize the creation of a new version of this telefantasya?
She answered, “Parang I think 10 years ago, supposed to be, book four [ang gagawin].
“Kasi yung pinalabas [noong 2005], book one, two and three, di ba? Yung two is Etheria. Yung book four ito yung new saga, supposed to be in 2010.
“Kaya lang hindi natuloy, maraming reasons kung bakit hindi natuloy.”
It can be remembered that in 2010, GMA released a teaser about Encantadia: The Second Saga being aired that year.
However, the project did not push through.
Suzette added, “Relieved naman ako na hindi siya natuloy kasi at that time, hindi ko alam kung magwo-work siya.
“Pero yung right now, gusto nila na ipalabas ngayon yung book four.
“Ag problema ko, because it’s eleven years ago, so merong bagong audience na hindi alam kung ano yung Enca [short for Encantadia].
“So ang sinabi ko, requel--remake plus book four, pagsasamahin.”
She also clarified that the storyline from Etheria: Ang Ikalimang Kaharian ng Encantadia and Encantadia: Pag-ibig Hanggang Wakas won’t be included in this requel.
“Tatalunin ko yung Etheria and the book three so it’s book one and book four [na mapapanuod nila].
“But may mga information sa Etheria na nandito sa book one.
“Medyo iba pa rin yung book one, e. Kahit yung perspective ng pagkakasulat niya. Marami kaming dinagdag, nabago.”
Aside from Encantadia, Suzette is also the creator of GMA hit shows Amaya, One True Love and My Husband’s Lover.
SELECTION OF THE SANG’GRES. PEP also asked Suzette how they chose the stars who will bring life to the Sang’gres (diwata royalty) of the 2016 version.
It can be remembered that last April 4, it was announced that Glaiza de Castro, Kylie Padilla, Gabbi Garcia and Sanya Lopez will be reprising the roles of Pirena, Amihan, Alena, and Danaya, respectively.
Some netizens and Encantadiks were shocked when Gabbi and Sanya were chosen, since they are somewhat considered newcomers in showbiz.
However, Suzette explained that they really chose newbies to portray the roles.
She explained, “Aware kami na ang Encantadia can be a good star launcher.
“Good vehicle siya para mag-introduce ng bagong talent para pasikatin, hopefully.
“[Kapag] may mga name na, wala kang ma-a-achieve because may pangalan na siya, e.
“Pero pag nag-cast kami ng deserving, marurunong umarte at deserving naman, wala pang mga name, may ma-a-achieve siya. Because kaya naman e, di ba?”
Suzette then shared how Glaiza, Kylie, Gabbi and Sanya bagged their roles.
“Itong nanalo na apat, nagdaan sila ng maraming auditions, may mga call back.
“Hindi lang auditions ng acting, including doon yung physical na audition kung kaya nila humawak ng armas.”
She then pointed out the strengths of each actress.
“Of course, given doon si Glaiza kasi wala akong maisip na Pirena.
“Kylie is good kasi sa martial arts, bagay yun as Amihan dahil yun naman talaga, warrior naman talaga siya, [and] of course yung built.
“Si Gabbi, may boses siya, e. Plus, maganda naman yung bata, malay mo di ba?
“Si Sanya, ako, nakita ko noong si Sanya, nilabas di ba? Sexy naman yung bata, maganda naman yung bata. So kaya niya.”
In conclusion, Suzette leaves it up to the audience to judge if the chosen actresses are indeed, fit for the roles given to them.
“Masipag sila, e. Wala silang pagod sa pagre-rehearsals, e, sa trainings nila.
“So ang ano diyan, na i-launch na siya. Tapos sa pagpapalabas na siya, husgahan na lang ng mga tao kung bagay nga ba or hindi. Hopefully, bagay.”
