Janella Salvador learns to play ukulele for new series Born For You

Janella Salvador says that her character Sam in Born For You is close to her heart. "It's close to my heart kasi in my past soaps, meron ding music na na-incorporate pero this soap gave me the opportunity to play instruments."

Aside from showing her acting skills, Janella Salvador will also display her passion for music in her upcoming teleserye Born For You, where she is paired with Elmo Magalona.

In the ABS-CBN series, she plays Sam Kazuko, an aspiring singer who grew up in Japan. Sam's love for music will eventually bring her closer to Kevin (Elmo), who is a popular singer in the Philippines.

She narrated, "We're both into music pero yung pag-meet namin, unexpected.

"Nagkabangaan lang kami by chance and then nawala pero dahil nga sa red string of fate, nagkita sila ulit.

"Nalaman ko na si Kevin pala ay isang artista dito sa Philippines, and ako aspiring talaga na gustong-gusto kong makapasok sa industry and maging singer kasi yun yung pangarap ko talaga."

The 18-year-old singer-actress related that it is not the first time she will be playing a character who is inclined in music, since her characters in Be Careful with My Heart and Oh My G are also into singing.

But then, this will be the first time that she is given a chance to play instruments.

"It’s close to my heart kasi in my past soaps, meron ding music na na-incorporate pero this soap gave me the opportunity to play instruments.

"E, yun yung hindi ko pa talaga napapakita. I play the ukulele here sa soap na to.

"Mas gusto ko pa tuloy matutunan mag-play ng ukulele."

This is the first time that Janella will be seen in a primetime series, as Born For You is set to premiere on June 20 replacing The Story of Us starring Kim Chiu and Xian Lim.

The series is directed by Onat Diaz and produced by Dreamscape Entertainment.

TEAM-UP WITH ELMO. It is also known to the public that this is the first time that Janella will be paired with Elmo in a full-length series.

After the announcement of this series last December 2015, their chemistry was then tested in an episode of Wansapanataym and FPJ's Ang Probinsyano.

Janella then admitted during the ElNella (Elmo and Janella's love team) Media Day for Born For You last June 7, that she did not expect to be paired with the young actor for his debut project on ABS-CBN.

She even joked, "Noong sinabi sa akin na si Elmo [ang makakapartner ko], sabi ko, 'Eew, bakit siya!' Hindi, joke lang!

"Hindi, ang sabi ko, 'O, sige, I want to get to know him na.'

"Noong na-meet ko siya, quiet siya. And like I said, 'Paano kami mag-uusap?'

"At first, nagkakahiyaan pa. Pero when we got to know each other, ayun, we started talking na about life."

She said that they became close when they started taping scenes in Japan last March.

"Noong nagkausap kami, lalo na sa Japan, nagkabonding kami ng matagal, marami kaming bagay na napagkasunduan like food, animals and pareho kaming mabilis makatulog.

"Mga ganon lang. I didn’t expect na magiging ganito kami ka-close agad. After Japan, naging sobrang close kami."
