For the first time, Mark Herras is playing a gay role in GMA-7's new weekly comedy series Conan My Beautician.
The actor-dancer says the project is very timely since he wants to show the public that he can do things other than dancing and acting for drama shows.
“I want them to see na si Mark pala ay kayang gumawa ng different kinds of roles.
“Kaya rin pala niyang gumawa ng ibang klase sa mundo ng showbiz,” the 29-year-old Kapuso actor told PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) during the blog conference prepared for him, and comedy actors Betong Sumaya and Nar Cabico, earlier today, July 8.
The show started airing last Sunday, June 26. Mark said he's been enjoying his new role so far.
For his role as Conan, a straight guy pretending to be a gay beautician to be able to work at a salon, Mark said his preparation was very minimal.
Having been raised by his gay parents and being surrounded by members of the LGBT community in the industry, Mark says he knows enough already to portray his character effectively.
“I think nagkaroon ako ng maraming information sa utak,” said the actor.
“Kahit straight guy ako, alam ko 'yong kilos at galaw ng isang beki na lalaki based sa enviroment and on my experience.”
If there's one thing Mark needs to get used to, it is to be seen wearing dress in public more often.
“Medyo nakakahiya.
Asked about the reaction of his girlfriend Winwyn Marquez, a former Binibining Pilipinas candidate, Mark smiled and said, “Well, sabi niya parang lalaki tuloy ang ginagawa niya.
“I know she's happy kung ano ang ginagawa ko.”
COMEDIAN TAG. Mark is aware that he still has a long way to go before being called a comedian actor.
He said, “Mas madali sa akin ang mag-drama kasi mas madali para sa akin na lukutin ang mukha mo at maging mas kawawa.
“Kasi, ang comedy is timing.
As of now, he's still trying to keep up with his co-actors who are already known as comedy actors—Cacai Bautista, Betong Sumaya, Jerald Napoles, Tetay, and Boobsie.
Also joining the cast of Conan My Beautician are Megan Young, Jay Manalo, Lotlot de Leon, and newbie child actor Balang.
This male Cinderella love story-comedy series, which is directed by Adolf Alix, Jr., is shown every Sunday at 5 p.m. on GMA-7.
“Maiiwan ka talaga,” said Mark about doing a scene with these actors.
“Siguro ang ginagawa ko na lang is I listen to them like, during the rehearsals.
“So I make it a point na talagang makikinig ako doon sa ginagawa nila.
