The game's popularity in the Philippines was even featured on GMA-7's weekend magazine show Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho on its August 14 episode. For the segment, celebrity bloggers Laureen Uy and Alodia Gosiengfiao were invited to talk about their favorite Pokemon.

During the interview, Laureen explained that the app brought back precious memories from her childhood which is probably why a lot of people are also joining the craze.

She told Jessica, "Aside from the fact na makukulay sila at saka cute tlaga sila, it's the memories para sa akin yung pinaka-importante kasi naalala mo lahat tapos ngayon na nasa cellphone na siya, siyempre lahat ng tao may hawak nang cellphone. So feeling ko nagkakagulo sila kasi naalala nila lahat ng memories nila noong bata pa sila."

Laureen was asked by Jessica what her favorite Pokemon is while looking at stuffed toys at a toy store in Japan. The celebrity fashion blogger answered Bulbasaur and added, "Water siya, 'no? Water Pokemon," referring to its "type" or "element."

Her comment garnered tons of negative remarks on social media from hardcore Pokemon fans. Pinoy netizens clarified that Bulbasaur is not a Water type Pokemon, and instead is a Grass/Poison type. A snippet of the video interview became viral on Facebook and has now received over 750,000 views, as of writing.

On Twitter, Laureen apologized for her mistake and wrote, "I feel like I need to apologize to all the Pokemon fans for what I have said. Sorry po nataranta lang."

It's okay, Laureen! Bulbasaur accepts your apology!
