PEP EXCLUSIVE: What to expect from AXN's The Amazing Race Asia Season 5
9TH EPISODE RECAP. At the start of this leg, teams were asked to travel by train to Banyuwangi from Yogyakarta.
Louisa and Treasuri were the first to depart but the other teams were able to catch up, allowing all of them to board the same train for a 14-hour trip to Banyuwangi.
From the train station, teams raced their way to a coffee shop on Kimeren to get their next clue.
Early in the episode, the Filipino teams both agreed to help each other out so they could secure a spot in the Top 3.
The married couple and the beauty queens also acknowledged Treasuri and Louisa being the team to beat since they placed 1st in the competition four times already.
Rona said, "Treasuri and Louisa, they know their way around and how to communicate with people here." Eric added, "This is a race and we want to stay ahead as well."
Maggie (who held the title of Bb. Pilipinas-World 2007) said, "Being Filipinos, we have to have a pact with Eric and Rona that was solid. We were strategizing on how to make it to Top 3."
For their Roadblock challenge, teams had to crush 80 kilos of sulfur rocks at Ijen Volcano. Parul and Maggie decided to use the Yield against Treasuri and Louisa.
Eric and Rona were the first to complete the challenge and immediately went for their Detour challenge.
Upon arrival at their destination, Eric and Rona chose to give the U-turn to Treasuri and Louisa.
This means Treasuri and Louisa would have to complete both Detour challenges before proceeding to the next challenge at the Kalibendo Coffee Factory.
For this leg, teams have to choose between Dragon Horse and Human Bull.
In Dragon Horse challenge, each team must participate in Indonesia's traditional art of Jaran Kencak by decorating a horse and delivering it for a wedding ceremony procession.
In the Human Bull challenge, teams must transfer rice husks by hand across a paddy field while avoiding a kebo-keboan, a human dressed up as a bull.
For their final challenge, teams must look for seven red-colored beans that spell "pit stop" in order to receive their final clue.
TOP 3. Upon their arrival at the Pit Stop, Rona became emotional upon placing first in the penultimate leg of the competition.
Rona said, "This game has been a rollercoaster ride for everybody."
Her husband added, "We want to win this pretty badly because we want to start a family."
Eric and Rona apologized to Treasuri and Louisa for giving them the U-turn.
"Our apologies to the Indonesian team," Eric said.
Rona continued, "We felt sorry doing it but we had to.
"We all came here with a purpose and that is to win but at the same time, they're amazing people that it does make those decisions so difficult."
Meanwhile, Maggie and Parul were just happy to break the beauty queen stereotype during their stay in the competition
Maggie said in an interview, "We always feel like people underestimate beauty queens but this is totally not the case.
"We are not just girls that prance around in our high heels and wear make-up and do our hair and look pretty. This is it, this is Top 3."
