Maggie Wilson-Consunji and Parul Shah have emerged as winners of The Amazing Race Asia Season 5.
In the finale episode aired on AXN earlier tonight, December 15, viewers got to see Maggie and Parul arrive first at the pit stop in Bali, Indonesia.
The Pinoy beauty queens survived challenges in six countries, 12 cities, and over 12,000 kilometres, beating 10 other teams to claim the $100,000 dollar cash prize.
Hot on their heels were Malaysian beauty queens Chloe Chen and Lee Yvonne who arrived in second place.
Married couple Eric Tai and Rona Samson from the Philippines arrived third.
The Amazing Race Asia host Allan Wu and previously eliminated teams welcomed the finalists at the final pit stop.
TIGHT RACE. The last leg of The Amazing Race Asia Season 5 started in Bali.
During the first part, Eric and Rona were the first to set out by taking a ferry from Banyuwangi to Gilimanuk. Teams had to take a three-hour car trip to a holy temple in Sanur where they can find their next clue.
Once the teams arrived at the temple, they received route info where they needed to assemble a Balinese Penjor, which is a
tall, curved bamboo pole decorated with coconut leaves.
When they passed the standards of the Penjor artist, they had to deliver the pole to the marked Penjor area at Pantai Mertasari.
While Eric & Rona and Yvonne & Chloe were assembling their Balinese Penjor, Parul & Maggie got stuck in a traffic jam.
Fortunately for the Philippine beauty queens, their rivals had trouble getting the details right and they had to reassemble.
After they assembled the Penjor, the teams made their way to Taman Inspirasi and climbed a 10-meter-high Panjat Pinang Pole to retrieve the marked prize to exchange for their clue.
Teams then assembled an outrigger fishing boat and paddled out to a designated area in the sea to search for a marked lobster trap.
Although Eric & Rona arrived first, it was a really close race with the three teams just minutes away from each other.
Eric & Rona, Parul & Maggie and Yvonne & Chloe are the first, second and third teams to find the marked lobster trap to exchange for their next route info.
The teams were instructed to go to Pura Samuantiga, a 1000-year-old Balinese temple to search for their next clue.
All teams had trouble getting a taxi and Eric & Rona and Parul & Maggie got in big trouble when their taxi drivers refused to speed up.
This allowed Yvonne & Chloe to take the lead in this part of the leg.
At the Balinese temple, teams received their final Road Block task: they must place coconuts in their correct order. One racer must correctly arrange 20 coconuts, representing different elements from each 10 legs of the Race, into the round pods of this larger version of the Indonesian Congklak game.
Once teams completed this Road Block task, they raced to the final Pit Stop.
Maggie, Chloe and Rona represented their teams to take part in this task.
Despite arriving first, Yvonne & Chloe had trouble arranging the coconuts, allowing Parul & Maggie a chance to catch up.
Parul & Maggie were the first to complete this task and they immediately dashed out to the taxi with Yvonne & Chloe really close behind.
Rona struggled to remember the order of each Pit Stop while Eric could only look helplessly at the other teams leaving for the Pit Stop.
Even with a taxi driver that refused to speed up, Parul & Maggie were the first to reach the Pit Stop.
The Pinay beauty queens were finally crowned the winner of The Amazing Race Asia Season 5.
