Alfred Vargas joins the roster of original Encantadia actors tapped to become a part of GMA-7's telefantasya.
This was announced in a teaser aired yesterday, January 12.
He is set to play Amarro, a character he first portrayed in Encantadia's second chapter Etheria: Ang Ika-Limang Kaharian ng Encantadia.
In the original Encantadia, Alfred brought life to Aquil in the first book and was paired with Diana Zubiri, who was cast as Danaya.
Currently, the roles of Aquil and Danaya are being portrayed by Rocco Nacino and Sanya Lopez, respectively.
The original Aquil died during the first season's finale. Alfred was then included in Etheria to play Amarro, the kind father of Aquil who is a half-Hathor, half-Diwata.
No clues have been given yet about his Amarro character in Encantadia 2016. However, recent episodes have been leading up to the comeback of the Etherians.
Alfred's participation in Encantadia marks his return on GMA-7 for a regular drama series.
In 2011, Alfred returned to his original home network ABS-CBN and did a string of teleseryes. He later on focused on being a politician.
In 2015, he was able to do an episode of GMA's drama anthology Magpakailanman.
Alfred is the seventh original cast member who had a participation in the latest version of Encantadia.
The others were: Dingdong Dantes, Sunshine Dizon, Neil Ryan Sese, Ryan Eigenmann, Cheska Inigo, and Diana Zubiri.
Since Alfred and Diana's tandem became a hit during the first version of Encantadia, would their characters also be connected in the requel?
Would the other characters from Etheria also appear in the requel?
Those questions remain to be answered in the coming episodes of Encantadia.
In a PEPTalk episode last April 2016, Alfred reminisced his days in Encantadia 2005 and how it changed his careers along with his other castmates.
