Kantar: 10 Top-rating Pilot and Finale Daytime Shows in 2016

PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) continues to look back on the most-watched locally produced drama programs in 2016, after monitoring the TV ratings of Pinoy shows.

Here is a list of the Top 10 highest-rated pilot and finale episodes among daytime shows aired this 2016.

Daytime dramas had several timeslots: the pre-programming slot of the network's variety shows (11:30 a.m. – 12:15 p.m.), the afternoon block (2:30 – 5:45 p.m.), and the pre-programming slot of news programs (5:45 – 6:30 p.m.)

This time, the list is based on data from Kantar Media-TNS, which measured national TV ratings from January 1, 2016 to December 31, 2016.

Only included in this list are locally-produced daily drama shows.

PILOT EPISODES. Out of the 17 daytime shows that premiered in 2016, six shows from ABS-CBN made it to the list while GMA-7 had five.

Eleven shows made it to the list due to a tie.

The highest-rated pilot episode for a daytime drama series in 2016 was Be My Lady, which starred the reel-and-real life tandem of Erich Gonzales and Daniel Matsunaga. It registered a rating of 18.7% for its January 18 premiere.

Meanwhile, the GMA series Sa Piling Ni Nanay was the Kapuso Network's highest-rated pilot episode for a daytime drama. It placed 7th on the list with a 12.6% rating for its June 27 premiere.

Bianca Umali-Miguel Tanfelix's Wish I May, which was AGB's highest-rated pilot episode for daytime, did not make it to the Top 10 of Kantar. This drama series landed on the No. 12 spot with its 11.5% rating for its January 18 premiere.

Be My Lady, which featured the DanRich love team, depicted the interracial relationship between Pinang (Erich), a Filipina, and Phil (Daniel), a Singaporean.

2. Langit Lupa
Cast: Yesha Camile, Xia Vigor, Yam Concepcion, Jason Abalos, Patrick Garcia
Date and timeslot of pilot episode: November 28, 2016; 11:30 a.m. slot
Kantar Rating: 17.5%


Langit Lupa focused on the story of two little girls Esang (Yesha) and Princess (Xia) who became friends despite their social differences.


3. We Will Survive
Cast: Melai Cantiveros and Pokwang
Date and timeslot of pilot episode: February 29, 2016; 5:45 p.m. slot
Kantar Rating: 16.7%


This teleserye about the friendship of Maricel (Melai) and Wilma (Pokwang) was partly shot in Bicol. After a month of airing, this feel-good drama was transferred to a 5:00 p.m. timeslot.

4. The Greatest Love
Cast: Sylvia Sanchez, Dimples Romana, Andi Eigenmann
Date and timeslot of pilot episode: September 6, 2016; 4:15 p.m. slot
Kantar Rating: 15.7%


This family drama revolves around a mother named Gloria (Sylvia) who struggles to keep her children intact while battling Alzheimer's Disease.


5. Tubig at Langis
Cast: Cristine Reyes, Zanjoe Marudo, Isabelle Daza
Date and timeslot of pilot episode: February 1, 2016; 3:15 p.m. slot
Kantar Rating: 13.7%

Tubig at Langis became known for its feisty confrontation scenes between the wife Irene (Cristine) and the mistress Clara (Isabelle). In April, the series was aired an hour later after It's Showtime extended its airtime.


6. My Super D
Cast: Dominic Ochoa, Marco Masa
Date and timeslot of pilot episode: April 18, 2016; 5:45 p.m. slot
Kantar Rating: 13.2%

This superhero series told the story of Dodong (Dominic) who took on the responsibility of being Super D after finding a blue diamond.


7. Sa Piling Ni Nanay
Cast: Yasmien Kurdi, Katrina Halili, Mark Herras
Date and timeslot of pilot episode: June 27, 2016; 4:15 p.m. slot
Kantar Rating: 12.6%


Sa Piling Ni Nanay explored through the world of surrogacy, as Scarlet (Katrina) hired Ysabel (Yasmien) to bear a baby through in vitro fertilization.

The Millionaire's Wife marks the return of Andrea Torres in doing an afternoon series after starring in successful afternoon shows in the past. This time, Andrea was separated from perennial onscreen partner Mikael Daez since she had Mike Tan as her leading man.

Kantar Rating: 12.5%


Hanggang Makita Kang Muli had an unusual plot since it focused on feral child Anna (Bea), a young girl who acted like a dog because she was locked up with a canine for years. Derrick showed his daring side by baring his abs for the first time for a show.


9. Magkaibang Mundo
Cast: Louise delos Reyes, Juancho Trivino
Date and timeslot of pilot episode: May 23, 2016; 2:30 p.m. timeslot
Kantar Rating: 12.4%

Louise and Juancho's first team-up for a series depicted a love story of mortal Princess (Louise) and an elf named Elfino (Juancho).


10. Trops
Cast: Kenneth Medrano, Taki, That's My Bae boys
Date and timeslot of pilot episode: October 24, 2016; 11:30 a.m. timeslot
Kantar Rating: 12%



Trops
tackles the struggles of College students as depicted by the That's My Bae boys Kenneth Medrano, Joel Palencia, Kim Last, Jon Timmons, Miggy Tolentino, and Tommy Penaflor.


FINALE EPISODES.
In 2016, 21 finale episodes aired in the daytime block. Due to a tie, eleven shows were included in this list of most-watched finale episodes.

Seven ABS-CBN shows made it in the list while four came from GMA-7.

High-strung drama Tubig at Langis got the highest-rated finale episode. It registered a national rating of 21.6% for its September 2, 2016 finale.

While some daytime dramas registered ratings of 20% for a regular episode, it was only Tubig at Langis that finished with its rating in that range.

When the long-running GMA drama The Half Sisters ended on January 15, it got 15.4%, making it the highest rating for a Kapuso daytime finale in 2016.

This child-friendly series tackled about a girl named Ningning (Jana) who had an eye ailment that almost caused her blindness.


3. Pasion De Amor

Pasion De Amor is known for its sensual and daring scenes depicted by its lead characters Juan (Jake), Norma (Arci), Sari (Ellen), Oscar (Ejay), Jaime (Coleen), and Franco (Joseph).

4. Be My Lady

Kantar Rating: 18.2%

The final episode of this series showed how Pinang (Erich Gonzales) and Phil (Daniel Matsunaga) got their happy ending when the lady safely gave birth to their first baby.


5. All of Me

All of Me was supposed to pave the way for JM De Guzman's comeback but due to unfortunate incidents, he was pulled out after seven weeks of airing.


6. My Super D

Kantar Rating: 18.2%

My Super D ended when Dodong (Dominic Ochoa) finally defeated Tony (Marvin Agustin) and got married with Nicole (Bianca Manalo).

7. The Half Sisters
Cast: Barbie Forteza, Thea Tolentino
Date and timeslot of finale episode: January 15, 2016; 2:30 p.m. slot
Kantar Rating: 15.4%


The Half Sisters is considered as one of the longest-running daytime dramas in the new generation since it ran for one year and six months.

8. Hanggang Makita Kang Muli

Kantar Rating: 15.1%

The problems of the characters were solved when Anna (Bea Binene) no longer acted like a dog and was reunited with her family. She also had a beautiful love story with Calvin (Derrick Monasterio).

Kantar Rating: 14.9%

For its finale, Louisa (Andrea Torres) was able to gain peace of mind after the death of her enemy Jared (Sid Lucero) and when she rekindled her romance with Ivan (Mike Tan).

Kantar Rating: 14.9%


And I Love You So depicted half-sisters Trixie (Julia) and Joanna (Miles) whose intertwined lives made them rivals.


10. Destiny Rose

Kantar Rating: 14.7%


Destiny Rose focused on the story of Joey (Ken) and how he became successful as Destiny Rose after undergoing sex change.
