Carmi Martin is set to play a villain character in ABS-CBN's afternoon series The Better Half. She described her character as "may pagka Leila de Lima" who will affect the lives of the show's main characters. The new teleserye is set to air on Monday, February 13.

Carmi Martin returns to ABS-CBN after more than two years for the upcoming afternoon series The Better Half.

In an interview with (Philippine Entertainment Portal) at the February 2 press conference of the teleserye, the 53-year-old actress said that the Kapamilya network had been giving her offers that tempted her to say yes.

However, at that time, she was doing the GMA-7 sitcom Ismol Family, which was topbilled by Carla Abellana and Ryan Agoncillo.

She said, "Matagal na raw nila akong gustong kunin pero nasa kabila ako doing sitcom for two years and a half.

"Iniiyakan ko na kasi ang dami nilang offer na magaganda pero I cannot naman give up Ismol."

When Ismol Family ended in November 2016, Carmi finally said yes to this Kapamilya show that will air its pilot episode on Monday, February 13, after It's Showtime.

According to Carmi, the offer is too good to refuse because of the character whom she describes as "may pagka Leila de Lima."

Her character as the main villain will also affect the lives of the four main characters: Camille (Shaina Magdayao), Bianca (Denise Laurel), Rafael (JC De Vera), and Marco (Carlo Aquino).

She explained, "Noong biglang tinawagan nila ako for this na sinabi yung role, na mayor nga, main villain tapos may pagka Leila de Lima!

"Tapos ano siya, e, head ng drug syndicate. May connection ako sa mga buhay nila which ikasisira ng dalawang babae.

"Kaya noong sinabi sa akin, sabi ko, I'm just so grateful for being a comedian for two years and a half but yung pagiging artista ko, hungry na rin ako."

Carmi revealed that she has yet to tape her scenes for The Better Half. "Siguro, next week," she said.

The actress, who is known for doing kontrabida roles on TV, also said that she missed playing these kinds of roles.

Her last teleserye was MariMar in 2015 wherein she played a kind character.

Meanwhile, Carmi's last kontrabida role was in the afternoon series Moon of Desire, which was also aired on ABS-CBN in 2014. It was also her last project in the Kapamilya network.

Carmi is known as one of the veteran actors who enjoys the luxury of doing projects in both ABS-CBN and GMA.

She is known as part of the long-running sitcom Abangan Ang Susunod na Kabanata in ABS-CBN, which ran from 1991 to 1997.

Carmi's first foray into teleseryes happened in GMA where she played the villain in Ikaw na Sana (1997) starring Angelu de Leon, Gladys Reyes, and Bobby Andrews.

Her other shows in GMA were: Ikaw Lang Ang Mamahalin (2001), Kahit Kailan (2002), I Luv NY (2006), Ako Si Kim Sam Soon (2008), Ang Babaeng Hinugot Sa Aking Tadyang (2009), Beauty Queen (2010), My Lover My Wife (2011), Broken Vow (2012), Luna Blanca (2012), Unforgettable (2013), and Prinsesa ng Buhay Ko (2013).

She would also do various roles for the teleseryes in Kapamilya network, mainly, Labs Ko Si Babe (1999), Ikaw Ang Lahat Sa Akin (2005), Da Adventures of Pedro Penduko (2006), Mars Ravelo's Lastikman (2007), Kambal Sa Uma (2009), and Katorse (2009).
