Roxanne Barcelo is currently working on the martial arts action film Blood Hunters: Rise of the Hybrid.
The actress, also known as Roxee B, plays an aswang slayer named Kali.
"Her instincts are on point. She's so in love with her mentor and her partner in crime, Max," said Roxanne in an interview with PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) during a set visit in Bataan.
"Max is played by Ian Ignacio and they have a very beautiful, heartfelt love story that sort of ties up the whole action. They have a passion for slaying and in love, they also slay."
Aiming to promote Filipino martial arts to international viewers with a twist, Blood Hunters: Rise of the Hybrid introduces Pinoy folklore and superstitions.
Filipino martial arts action star and filmmaker Vincent Soberano wrote, produced, and directed this full-length version of the award-winning short film Blood Hunters.
After almost a decade, Roxanne returned to ABS-CBN to join the cast of the early primetime series Wildflower.
She was tapped to portray Natalie in the TV show topbilled by Maja Salvador.
Roxanne explained the reason why she opted to become a Kapamilya once again in this exclusive interview with PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal).
“Well, actually, I've been freelance for a while. Ever since naman, I never really had a contract with any station.
“I've just always been open for work and if there's a guesting, or there's a role to audition for, I'm just always open to audition.”
“I’m under Viva Artists Agency and I’ve been with them for three years already or two and a half years rather and I have two and a half more to go.
“But I try my best to just focus on my guestings primarily for ABS because I’m grateful na they gave me this role under the RSB Drama Unit.
“There were a lot of us who auditioned for this role pero talagang... I guess when you’re not forcing it, that’s when things happen na parang bahala ka na, Lord. It’s up to you but I’ll do my best.”
Roxanne admitted that is has always been her dream to perform as a villain on a Kapamilya primetime series.
“I've always been a fan naman of their soap operas and the truth is, pangarap ko talagang maging kontrabida sa isang primetime soap sa ABS-CBN. Clear 'yon. Sinulat ko 'yon in my diary.
“Kasi nanay ko, Kapamilya siya, e, saka tatay ko, Kapamilya. So, ‘pag nakakuha ako ng role sa Kapamilya, ibig sabihin, manonood ang parents ko.
“I'm not saying they weren't watching me before. They were watching me. They were supporting me but they absolutely love all the soap operas religiously ng Kapamilya network.
“So, I guess there's always something in my heart na you wanna make your parents proud.”
“Sinabi ko kay Lord talaga, ‘Gusto ko ng kontrabida role, Lord, sa ABS-CBN, sa primetime,’ and pumasok sa primetime ang Wildflower, as in right before TV Patrol, so sabi ko, ‘Dream come true.’
“So sabi ko sa notebook ko, ‘Ay, check! Isang malaking check!’”
She then opened up on most difficult thing she did for her TV comeback.
“It’s a challenge because I know I have to really step up my game. Hindi pwedeng halfhearted ang bigay ko sa mga eksena.
“Pero ang hirap din kasi sobrang saya ko on set like to work with Direk Raymond [Ocampo]. He’s so fun...like ridiculously fun.
“Aiko Melendez, oh my gosh, alam kong kontrabida siya sa eksena pero off-cam, oh my God, she makes me cry laughing. Talagang bongga siya magpatawa.
“Maja is so playful also. Lahat, sobrang good vibes lahat.
“Puro magagaling pero ‘pag sinabi mong take, 3-2-1… ay! Transform ang mga friend. Parang from friends, biglang enemies agad. So yeah, it’s really crazy.”
