Erik Santos admits that even though he is one of the celebrity judges in Tawag ng Tanghalan, he also has his personal favorite among the finalists.
However, he assures that he remains as objective as he can be during the competition.
“Ako, bilang hurado kasi fair ako,” Erik Santos told PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) and other reporters who attended the press conference of his upcoming concert Erik Santos sings The Greatest OPM Classics. The concert will take place on April 7 at The Theatre Solaire.
He continued, “Mayroon din akong binoboto by text. Sa text votes, mayroon din akong personal favorite.
“Pero kapag umupo na ako as a judge, yun na 'yong dinedepende kung ano 'yong performance nila on that day.”
He also mentioned that there were times when his selected candidate for a certain episode differ from other hurados and hosts.
“Actually, kaming mga hurados, mayroon kaming personal na pagtingin sa bawat contestant.
“Minsan nga kapag nagko-compare notes kami, napapaisip kami, 'Ah, ito yung panalo mo. Ito yung panalo ko, oh.'
“Kumbaga, hindi mo yun makukuwestiyon kasi sariling desisyon 'yon, sariling preference 'yon ng hurado.
“So, ako rin mismo, may mga resulta na hindi rin ako pabor. Pero ganun talaga, e.”
Despite this, he reiterated that on “Tawag ng Tangahalan: Ang Huling Tapatan” on Saturday, March 11, “I have to be fair kahit na may personal akong paborito.”
As much as he wanted to talk to each finalist to give them advice for Saturday, Erik said, “Itong grand finals, ang hirap nang makalapit kasi sila mismo napre-pressure.
“I know the feeling kasi galing ako sa ganung sitwasyon, e.”
After the grand finals, Erik said he's willing to be a mentor to anyone from the finalists who will seek his help.
The Kapamilya singer said, “After ng competition, mayroon akong gustong tulungan, siyempre.
“Nandoon na ako ngayon, e, kung gusto nilang magpaturo o magpa-mentor, why not?”
Erik further explained that this is his way of giving back to the industry on his 14th anniversary.
“Sa mga natutunan ko, sa experiences ko in the past 14 years, parang it's very fitting now.
“Lalo na ngayong dumarating yung mga produkto ng singing contests, na 14 years ago, ako yung nandoon, e.
“Parang for me, 'yon ang pinakamagandang i-contribute sa OPM at sa kanila na rin, na matulungan sila in my own little way,” the former Star in a Million grand winner concluded.
Maricel Callo, Mary Gidget Dela Llana, Marielle Montellano, Pauline Agupitan, Eumee Capile, Noven Bellaza, Sam Mangubat, Carlmalone Montecido, Froilan Canlas, and Rachel Gabreza will compete against each other to be the “Tawag ng Tanghalan” grand champion on Saturday, March 11, on It's Showtime.
