Gloria Romero, 83, is not showing signs of slowing down in her career.
The veteran actress topbills the upcoming Sunday fantasy series on GMA-7, Daig Kayo ng Lola Ko.
She will portray Lola Goreng, the main lead of the show featuring magical stories and adventures that young viewers can learn from.
“I am so blessed sa edad kong ito, binigyan pa ako ng role na ganito,” beamed Miss Gloria last April 20 at the press conference of the weekly series.
Now in her 80s and having been in the business for six decades, Miss Gloria swears that she has not gotten tired of it all.
“Sa bawat binibigay sa aking teleserye, hindi nawawala ang passion ko talaga, lagi akong nae-excite pag may something new,” she explained.
“And this one, this particular one,” she said referring to her new show, Daig Kayo ng Lola Ko.
This fantasy series starring Jillian Ward, Chlaui Malayo, Julius Miguel and David Remo will air its pilot episode on April 30 on GMA-7. It will air after Hay, Bahay, 7:35 PM, on GMA Sunday Grande.
“Talagang matagal kong hinintay ang isang role na ganito. Nakakabata talaga.”
Apart from the fantasy series, Miss Gloria also has a recurring role in the primetime Kapuso teleserye Meant To Be, starring Barbie Forteza.
“Sa Meant To Be di naman ganon kalaki ang role ko. Paminsan-minsan lang lumalabas pero nag-e-enjoy ako kasi magkaiba ang dalawa.”
For Daig Kayo ng Lola Ko, the veteran actress allots just one day for taping.
She also commends the staff, such as her director, Direk Rico Gutierrez, who is considerate of her.
Case in point, Direk Rico allows her to leave early whenever she experience migraine-attacks.
Even ordinary people do not fail to get amazed by Gloria.
Whenever she shops for her groceries, which she likes to do and also serves as her exercise, people approach her and ask her two things:
“’Tita Gloria or Lola ilang taon na kayo? Di pa kayo nagre-retire?’” she related.
“Pangalawa, ‘Ano po ang iniinom niyong gamot? Bakit nakakalakad pa kayo?’ Minsan gusto ko nang ilagay dito [pointing to her chest]."
Apart from her medicine for her vertigo, Gloria disclosed that she regularly takes ascorbic acid and eats everything in moderation.
“I eat anything, pero konti-konti. Titikman ko. Masunurin ako. Gusto ko pang mabuhay nang matagal.”
