GMA-7 earns 3 gold medals, ABS-CBN wins bronze at 2017 New York Festivals

GMA Network won three gold medals at the 2017 New York Festivals “World’s Best TV and Films” Competition.

ABS-CBN, for its part, earned a bronze medal during the awarding ceremony held in Las Vegas, U.S.A., last April 25.


KAPUSO NETWORK BAGS THREE GOLD MEDALS. GMA Public Affairs programs Reporter’s Notebook, Front Row, and Reel Time bagged three Gold medals in this year's edition.

GMA-7’s investigative program, Reporter’s Notebook, bested other nominees in the Community Portraits category for its “Pasan-Pasang Pangarap” episode.

The documentary, reported by Maki Pulido, showed how two brothers hauled sacks of charcoal to save up money for schooling.

The documentary program, Front Row, won a gold medal in the Human Concerns category.

Its winning episode, “Bata sa Bintana,” featured the story of 13-year-old boy Zoren whose health conditions rendered him so weak that his contact with the outside world was only through a window.

GMA News TV’s Reel Time gave the Philippines its third gold medal this year.

The reality docu program won in the National/International Affairs category for its “Maling Akala” documentary.

Apart from discussing the sensitive issue of extrajudicial killings, the documentary brought youngsters who believe that drug addicts should be killed face to face with former drug addicts who have succeeded in reforming their lives and are now community leaders.

FINALIST CERTIFICATES ALSO FOR GMA. Three Kapuso shows received finalist certificates in this year’s New York Festivals:

One: Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho, for the “Gintong Medalya” episode, in the Community Portraits category.

Two: Entertainment TV’s Someone To Watch Over Me, in the Telenovelas category; Someone To Watch Over Me was the primetime series of Tom Rodriguez and Lovi Poe, which dealt with the subject of a man with early-onset Alzheimer's disease.

Three: GMA News TV’s Investigative Documentaries, in the Community Portraits category, for its "PAAralan” episode.

KAPAMILYA GETS BRONZE. Atom Araullo travelled to Artic Norway for the ABS-CBN documentary Warmer.

Warmer bagged the Bronze medal in the Climate Change and Sustainability Category of the New York Festivals Awards for international TV programs and films.

FINALIST CERTIFICATES ALSO FOR ABS-CBN. Three other Kapamilya programs got finalist certificates.

One: "Lando's Wrath" of Bandila for best coverage of a continuing news story.

Two: "Typhoon Lando" of TV Patrol for best newscast.

Three: ANC's "Mukha: Serbisyo" for current affairs.
