Actress Angelu de Leon feels fortunate that she is able to work on a per project basis in TV networks.
Since 2009, she has been given regular projects in the teleseryes of GMA-7.
For this reason, PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) asked her during the May 15 press conference of her new show, Mulawin vs. Ravena, if she also received offers from ABS-CBN.
Angelu revealed that she was supposed to do a guest appearance in FPJ's Ang Probinsyano.
She said, "Oo, alam ko, there was a guesting dapat for Probinsyano, pero hindi talaga natutuloy."
Angelu can't recall why the guest appearance did not push through, but last year, the actress had a Bell's Palsy attack.
She recalled, "Hindi ko alam kung meron na akong Bell's Palsy, but lagi siyang di napu-pursue.
"There was even… di ko alam kung The Greatest Love din or something.
"Fortunate nga ako, e. Fortunate ako na I'm given this opportunity to work per project."
This 2017, Angelu is part of FPJ's Ang Probinsyano's new rival, Mulawin vs. Ravena.
The 37-year-old actress said she is really thankful to the Kapuso Network for continuously assigning projects to her.
She narrated, "You know, GMA has been there for me. I came from ABS and I will never forget that.
"Pero throughout the years, I am happy na from TGIS (1995), Ober Da Bakod (1992), mas marami talaga akong nagawa with GMA."
Angelu clarified that she is also welcome to accept offers from ABS-CBN once she finished her show on GMA-7.
Angelu first appeared on television via ABS-CBN's afternoon gag show Ang TV in 1994.
She then signed up with GMA Network and VIVA Television for her biggest break: the youth-oriented show TGIS that aired from 1995 to 1999.
Through this show, she was first paired with Bobby Andrews, with whom she would form a phenomenal love team during the '90s.
Incidentally, Bobby is also part of Mulawin vs. Ravena.
However, Angelu is not sure if she will have a love angle with Bobby in this upcoming telefantasya.
She pointed out, "Hindi ko nga alam kung balik tambalan kami dito, kasi hindi ko pa siya nakakawork.
"Wala pa kaming eksena together kasi naiwan ako sa Avila [kingdom of Mulawins].
"I don't know kung kami yung magkalove team, e. Wala pa kaming scene. Something to look forward!"
FROM AMY TO ANGELU. In Mulawin vs. Ravena, which will start airing on May 22, Angelu will play Lourdes, the role once played by Amy Austria-Ventura.
According to Angelu, she wasn't able to watch the original version of Mulawin aired in 2004, which is why she felt pressured filling in the shoes of the veteran actress.
Angelu recalled, "Noong inoffer nila sa akin, I'd be honest, noong pinapalabas nila yung Mulawin, may pinagdadaanan ako nito. So hindi ko siya nasusubaybayan.
"So when they offered it to me, and they said Amy Austria, ito talaga. Sabi ko, 'Wow, pressure.'
"Kasi siyempre naman, di ba, we know kung gaano naman kagaling si Miss Amy so parang hindi ko na lang siya pinanuod.
"Para lang it's me, hindi siya nakopya but hoping ako na kahit 0.5 lang ng ginawa niya, nakuha ko."
Since Mulawin vs. Ravena is a sequel, many assumed that Angelu's character would be way older than her actual age.
However, she clarified, "Oo. Pero by looks and everything, hindi nila ako pinatanda."
She pointed out that other cast members are playing characters older than their age while other stars are acting as mothers of children who are older than them.
One of them is Regine Velasquez-Alcasid, who plays the role of Sandawa, the mother of nature.
In the story, Regine was introduced as the mother of Mulawin Dakila, which was played by Eddie Gutierrez in the 2004 version.
New cast member Roi Vinzon, who plays Daragit, is Dakila's son.
Angelu said, "Hindi kasi that's why it's called acting, that's why marami naman kami dito na when you see…
"Natatawa nga ako kasi noong pinalabas, sabi ko, 'Miss Regine, anak mo pala si Roi Vinzon!
"Sabi niya, 'Apo ko na si Roi Vinzon, ang anak ko talaga si Eddie Gutierrez!
"So reklamo ka pa ng edad? Again that's why it's called a fantaserye. It should be different from the real world we live in."
