ABS-CBN’s My Dear Heart had its final episode on June 16, 2017, and it gave the audience gut-wrenching goodbyes and hopeful new beginnings.
The episode begins with the soul of Dr. Margaret, fondly called, Lola Doktora (Coney Reyes), talking to the soul of Heart (Nayomi Ramos). Heart says, “Lola Doktora, wala na po ‘yong puting liwanag. Hindi na po niya ako sinusundo. Wala na po siya.”
To which Lola Doktora replies, “Sabi ko sa ’yo, di ba? Si lola doktorang bahala?”
A bright light appears, as the scene shifts to real-life occurrences in the hospital, where the doctors are trying to revive both Lola Doktora and Heart.
In a tear-inducing final conversation between the lola and the apo, Lola Doktora bids farewell to Heart, saying she needed to leave so Heart can go home:
“Mahal na mahal kita apo. Nagpapasalamat ako na sa kahit kaunting panahon lang, nakilala kita at nakasama. Mami-miss kita—sobra-sobra. At sana huwag mong kalimutan si Lola Doktora, ha. Lagi mo sana akong maalala. Tandaan mo, lagi kang nandito [brings Heart’s hands to her where her own heart is] sa puso ko.”
Before Lola Doktora went to the light, they parted ways by saying, “I heart you.”
In the operating rooms, Heart regains life, as Lola Doktora is pronounced dead. Heart finally snaps out of her coma and wakes up in tears.
HEART AND GIA IN LONDON. With the passing of time, Heart is now out of the danger, and Dr. Gia (Ria Atayde) has been declared by the court as the biological mother of Heart.
Gia tells Heart’s father Jude (Zanjoe Marudo) that she is leaving with Heart for London.
Jude, downtrodden by the news, argues with Gia, who says she’s willing to go to court to fight for Heart’s custody.
As Jude goes home to his wife, Clara (Bela Padilla), they decide not to pursue the court case to protect Heart, thus, allowing the child to stay with her mother in London.
FORGIVING THE FOE. Dr. Francis (Eric Quizon), the person responsible for cutting Heart’s oxygen and shooting Dr. Margaret, is now in prison clothes. He is taken aback as he sees that Heart is his visitor. Heart then approaches Dr. Francis, and tell him that he is forgiven. Dr. Francis apologized, and they hug.
Dr. Francis then talks to his yaya, who visits him regularly in prison. He tells yaya that now he realized the gravity of his sins, and is ready to make amends. He tells his yaya that since he’s in prison, it’s about time she goes home to her family and live her life.
It is then revealed that Yaya would sacrifice everything for Dr. Francis because she is his mother. Yaya says it was a deal she made with Dr. Francis’s father: “Kapalit ng pagpapahintulot niya sa akin na mapalapit sa ’yo , na alagaan ka at mabibigay ang pangalan niya sa ’yo.”
The mother and son then tearfully hug each other.
SPENDING TIME WITH THE FAMILY. Jude and Clara spend most of their time with Heart, who is still unaware of the deal Jude and Clara made with Dr. Gia. When the time has come to give Heart to Dr. Gia, Jude gives Heart her necklace, which she left with Jude before her operation. As Jude leaves in his cab, Heart tries to run after him.
In her new home, Heart seems unhappy, losing appetite, as she tells Dr. Gia that she wants to go home. Dr. Gia tells her that she couldn’t do that, and that she has to get used to living with just the two of them, as they are about to depart to London.
Upong learning this, Heart resists and tells Dr. Gia that London is too far and she doesn’t want to go.
Heart’s friend, Bingo (Enzo Pelojero) then visits Heart’s new home, and together, they escape and make their way to Jude and Clara’s home. Jude hugs Heart, but returns her to Dr. Gia. Heart gets angry at Jude for allowing her to stay with Dr. Gia, and runs away from him, crying.
Jude then gives Dr. Gia the letters he wrote to Heart, while the kid was in comma. He asked Dr. Gia to give the letters to Heart when they arrive in London.
On the day of Heart and Dr. Gia’s flight, Jude and Clara’s family and neightbors help out Jude—one neighbor tried to give Jude a key to his son’s car—so he can run after Heart. Jude refuses the help at first, until Bingo gave him a letter written by Heart. In the letter, Heart is thankful to Jude for always fighting for her.
After realizing that he hasn’t fought for her enough, Jude takes the keys and head towards the airport. Unfortunately, Jude was not allowed entry to the plane. As he watched the planes take off, he apologizes to Heart for not doing enough. At that moment, a tiny hand holds Jude’s hand, and it turns out to be Heart.
Dr. Gia tells Jude that what she thought was the right thing was selfish, after all. She says she will find herself, but not at the expense of her daughter. She also tells Jude that she will come back when she’s ready to be a mother.
On the way back home, Heart reads Jude’s letters, smiling.
The episode ends with the family visiting Dr. Margaret’s grave. Heart and Bingo then see their Lola Doktor, who waves her hand at them and smiles.
