Guess what Gil Cuerva  did before shooting his first onscreen kiss with Jennylyn Mercado! He revealed, "Nagtoothbrush ako ng twice!"

Jennylyn Mercado and Gil Cuerva's first kissing scene for GMA-7's adaptation of My Love From The Star aired last June 13.

According to Gil, this wasn't the first kissing scene that he shot with his leading lady.

For this reason, the newbie actor did not feel tense anymore upon taping the scene.

He said, "I was less nervous about this kissing scene than the first one na natape although this was the first one na lumabas.

"Because in the story naman talaga, ito talaga yung lalabas na first kissing scene.

"But we taped actually for another kissing scene which will be released in a couple of weeks before this one.

"With this one, I guess I was more relaxed, more comfortable, less kabado, less nervous, kasi I already did one with Jennylyn. I just did what I was supposed to do."

As for the kissing scene he first taped with Jennylyn, Gil admitted that he felt nervous.

He shared, "First one, siyempre kabado ako, I was nervous.

"Nagtoothbrush ako ng twice! Nagmouthwash.

"Kahit may dinner break kami, di ako kumain ng dinner. Gusto ko pa rin fresh! Siyempre, nakakahiya kay Jennylyn, e.

"I was nervous. I've always been honest when people ask me about it. I was nervous about it.

"But kaya naman, I was happy I got to see how it looked like."

How did Jennylyn help him in shooting his first ever onscreen kiss?

Gil answered, "She just let me be me. Parang you could see na she's just being very open.

"I'm pretty sure for her, she didn't want me to be nervous.

"Siyempre at the start, kung si Jennylyn Mercado yung kapartner mo, ang bigat ng pressure.

"She just let me be me. That in a way helped me."

PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) and select entertainment reporters spoke to Gil at a pocket press conference for My Love From The Star and Mulawin vs. Ravena last June 15.

VERSUS KATHNIEL SHOW. My Love From The Star now goes head to head against a new show: the Kathryn Bernardo-Daniel Padilla starrer La Luna Sangre.

Does this add more pressure for Gil since a new show will be pitted against them?

Frankly, he answered, "Siyempre, we're a bit pressured to promote the show more.

"We want more people to watch our show especially with the new soap of the other network coming out, especially since they're one of the most, if not the most famous love team.

"For me, I don’t see it as like a competition or anything na parang kailangan naming talunin ito or that.

"We also want to promote our show so that people watch our show, people will want to watch our show and support our show."

The 21-year-old actor, however, wishes both his show and the rival program success.

"With regard to the show coming out on Monday, hopefully it becomes successful for them, the same way that hopefully, our show has become successful. At least for me, personally.

"I'm pretty sure sa mga fans it's still a competition.

"Fans would want My Love From The Star to rate more than the other.

"But I don’t look at it kasi that way. For me, just trying to attract more viewers as possible."

It looks like Gil had to deal with a lot of pressure for his first acting project.

He was tapped to play leading man in an adaptation of a popular Korean drama. The show then replaced Destined To Be Yours, which starred the phenomenal love team of Alden Richards and Maine Mendoza.

Now, their show MLFTS is being pitted against a new teleserye of another phenomenal love team.

Still, Gil feels fortunate to be put in this position.

The showbiz newbie pointed out, "I guess the way I just think of it as what a better position to be.

"There are a lot of people lined up to be the next leading man, to be the next bida sa isang teleserye or movie.

"And then here's Gil Cuerva, a model with no experience, auditions, tries out his luck, and gets it.

"So if I had to choose between sitting at home, waiting for the opportunity to happen for me, versus being here right now, katapat ko yung KathNiel or if not, I will definitely choose the position I'm in today.

"It's just about being thankful na andito ako because there are a lot of people who will do anything to be in a position I'm in today."

So far, how was the whole acting experience for him?

Gil shared, "I'm grateful, it’s a good platform for me. It also provides a lot of excitement for hopefully what's to come.

"I'm trying to have a feel of how it is really like. Potentially, in the future, I may help improve the qualities of our soaps. But just looking forward.

"Right now, I'm just trying to understand how the work is, how the system works."
