Newbie actor Gil Cuerva is happy about the positive feedback as well as good ratings of GMA-7's primetime series My Love From The Star.
“We're just doing our best to get yung mga Kapuso fans to watch our show and make them happy with the outcome of this project.
“So when we see that our ratings are high or getting higher, I guess it just goes to show that, one, the Kapuso fans have strong support; two, all our hard work has been paying off,” said Gil in an interview with PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) after the Artist Center Grand Fans' Day held on Friday, June 23.
During its first month, Gil said he was ready to face comments about his portrayal of Matteo Domingo in the Philippine adaptation of MLFTS.
“I always take all comments in,” he said.
However, the fashion model-turned-actor seems to be more interested about getting feedback on what he needs to improve further.
“With all the comments, I guess the best comments that I've seen was that there's been improvement since I first came out in the show.
“As a new actor, that's all you can ask for.
“For me, I don't really want those cheesy cliché comments na, 'Oh, you're so good. Blah-blah.'
“For me, to see someone who will give me both the pros and cons of my work and say that there has been improvement... For me, that's all I can ask for.
“Honestly, that's the best comment I can ever receive.”
To be more specific, Gil mentioned that he read a few comments about his voice.
“I read some comments na manipis ang boses ko and hindi ko masyadong ine-enunciate yung mga words.
“Points for improvements yun.
“I take comments that I think are very full of sense. Isa yun sa mga comments na I take seriously.”
ON BEING BULOL. Gil would also like viewers to know that he's aware of their comments about the way he speaks in Filipino.
In fact, prior to the interview, he was already telling PEP, “Tina-try ko naman mag-Tagalog, sinusubukan ko naman.”
Gil pointed out, "Well, first language ko naman ang English.
“Baka mamaya may iba pa diyan na makita niyo na mabubulol ako.
“That happens a lot kasi hindi ko naman first language ang Tagalog.”
He also admitted, “There are times na nahihirapan akong mag-enunciate ng certain words, lalo na kapag masyado nang mahaba, pagod na yung dila ko.
“But it's something I try to overcome and it's something I'm trying to get better at, yung Tagalog ko.
“Pasensya na mga fans kung lumalabas yung pagiging Inglesero ko.
“Tina-try ko naman mag-Tagalog, e.
“Sinusubukan ko naman talagang maging mas magaling sa Tagalog.”
ON POPULARITY. Meanwhile, during the Artist Center Grand Fans' Day, Gil was one of the Kapuso stars who was well-received by the audience.
However, Gil refuses to think that he has already become popular because of My Love From The Star.
Instead, he acknowledged that effort of the whole team behind the show.
“I think it's more of the show that's gathering attention,” he said.
“If there's any attention that should be pointed to, I think it should be sa show at saka sa acting ni Jen.
“The story actually really revolves around Steffi [played by Jennylyn Mercado].
“Come to think of it, si Jen ang nagbubuhat ng show.
“Siyempre, along with all the help of all the cast members and everybody else.
“That's why I think it's a great show.”
In conclusion, Gil said about My Love From The Star, “It's a great project kasi everyone is trying their best and working hand.
“So, I think it'll be wrong to say na naging sikat si Matteo.
“We should be thinking about the show rather than just one character that's bringing the show.”
