Trops actor Kim Last is happy that their daytime series has been registering high ratings since it began airing in October 2016.
However, the newbie actor admitted that the whole staff became nervous when they found out that they will go against the ABS-CBN series Ikaw Lang Ang Iibigin starring Kim Chiu and Gerald Anderson.
The Kimerald drama series first aired on May 1, 2017.
Before Ikaw Lang Ang Iibigin, Trops competed with two other Kapamilya teleseryes: Be My Lady (starring Erich Gonzales and Daniel Matsunaga) and Langit Lupa (starring child stars Yesha Camile and Xia Vigor).
He recalled, "Actually, this is the third teleserye that we're going against.
"Tapos when they announced na Kimerald, sabi namin, 'Okay, gagalingan natin ha. Kasi malakas ang kalaban.
"So on set, from actors to directors, everyone is focused, parang walang biruan.
"Okay, we need to make sure that these coming episodes, maganda para manalo tayo."
According to AGB Nielsen, Trops got higher ratings than Ikaw Lang Ang Iibigin's first week, except for ILAI's pilot episode.
Kim recalled with a smile, "Actually, it's weird because we didn't find out the results for their pilot episode for like a week, so kinakabahan kami ano nangyari kaya.
"So the first two days came out tapos pantay. Ang galing ha, kasi pilot ng kabila. Tapos the last three days, panalo kami so nagpa-pizza kami!"
Currently, Trops is already on its 10th month of airing, a rare feat in daytime TV shows.
Will their daytime series air until they celebrate their first anniversary in October?
He answered, "Sana, sana po. Hindi pa po namin alam, e. Ang alam lang po namin, extended."
PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) interviewed Kim during the press visit on the set of Sunday PINASaya last Sunday, April 23, at GMA Network Center.
FAT MEMO. However, in the midst of celebrating their triumph in the ratings game, Kim received not-so-good news.
He, along with co-stars and That's My Bae members Kenneth Medrano and Miggy Tolentino, received a "fat memo"!
He said with a laugh, "Na-fat memo kaming tatlo ni Kenneth at Miggy. Hindi sa katawan, sa mukha."
"Pumayat kami, we were forced to go to the gym."
A "fat memo" is issued by management to remind stars to shed off unwanted pounds.
Aside from Trops, Kim also enjoys his stint in Sunday PINASaya where he tries live acting for the first time.
Comparing his experience with the two shows, the 20-year-old actor-dancer said, "Iba yung acting sa live kaysa sa acting sa taping kasi with live, there's no take two, sa taping meron.
"Pero there's still pressure na magawa naming okay kahit may take two.
"Pero nandiyan yung mga brothers ko, yung That's My Bae, so it makes everything so much easier."
Aside from Kim, Kenneth, and Miggy, Trops also features other That's My Bae members Jon Timmons, Tommy Penaflor, and Joel Palencia along with teen actresses Krystal Reyes, Shaira Mae, and Taki.
