Vice Ganda's joke about GMA-7 artists transferring to ABS-CBN recently became viral last week.
When PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) had a chance to speak with GMA Senior Vice President for Entertainment Lilybeth G. Rasonable, she was asked how she felt about the It's Showtime host's controversial remark.
The GMA executive simply said, "Ah, yeah, it was a joke so everybody is free to make their jokes. That's his joke."
How did she and the other Kapuso executives react upon hearing the joke?
Rasonable answered, "Wala naman kasi I don't think we should react to it.
"Kasi nga, it was said out of fun, yun ang gusto niyang gawin, yung ang style niya, okay lang naman."
PEP.ph had an exclusive interview with the network executive during the August 14 press conference of My Korean Jagiya held at K-Pub Restaurant, TriNoma Mall, Quezon City.
Last August 7, Vice Ganda became a trending topic when he cracked a joke on It's Showtime Miss Q and A segment about talents of GMA-7 transferring to ABS-CBN.
Using the former tagline of GMA-7 when it was still called the rainbow network, Vice Ganda asked a contestant: "Kung sinasabing ang GMA ay 'Where you belong,' ba’t sila naglilipatan?"
Afterwards, the comedian-TV host said that it was only a joke.
ALJUR'S TRANSFER. Rasonable was also asked by PEP.ph to comment about Aljur Abrenica's transfer to rival network ABS-CBN.
Vice Ganda's joke on It's Showtime took place a few days after Aljur's launch as a Kapamilya star.
The Kapuso lady executive clarified that Aljur is already a freelance artist.
It was in March 2017 when Aljur's contract expired and the network decided not to renew it.
She pointed out, "Siguro baka hindi na dapat nga kagulat-gulat because his contract ended in March already.
"We parted ways already so he was free since March to do whatever he wants kasi freelancer na siya.
"Baka lang sa iba kasi hindi lang nila alam pero matagal na siyang wala sa GMA, March pa lang."
However, she stressed that the parting of ways between GMA and Aljur happened peacefully.
"Yes it was, it was peaceful.
"Tapos na yon, the time with Aljur and all the… di ba nagkaroon ng konting problema before but it ended peacefully."
The problem Rasonable was talking about took place in 2014 when Aljur expressed his intent to be released from his GMA contract.
Back then, Aljur said his career plans were not "aligned" with the network.
In 2015, Aljur and GMA were able to fix their differences. The actor was even given three projects.
On the first week of August, it was announced that Aljur is now a Kapamilya and is included as a cast member in FPJ's Ang Probinsyano.
The lady executive disclosed that Aljur's fiance Kylie Padilla still remains a talent of GMA Network.
"She just gave birth, we have to give her her time to spend in taking care of her baby.
"But definitely, we're waiting for her to come back when she's ready."
