ABS-CBN actor Paulo Avelino believes his new show The Promise of Forever was already conceptualized even before the arrival of the popular K-drama Goblin and the Hollywood movie Age of Adaline.
Netizens have been comparing his upcoming teleserye to these works since it features a man who is destined to live forever.
His character faces the same situation as the lead characters of Goblin and Age of Adaline, who were also ageless.
In a digital media conference yesterday, August 29, Paulo downplayed these comparisons and revealed that he already heard of this concept way back--even before he was tapped to lead the show.
He pointed out, "Well, personally, napanuod ko na yung Age of Adaline pero masasabi kong medyo iba ang istorya ng The Promise of Forever.
"Actually, matagal ng konsepto ito na nakasabit yata sa Dreamscape, parang five years ago or six years ago, narining ko rin itong concept na ito, hindi pa ako yung artista.
"I would say it's an original teleserye na pinaghirapan rin ng mga creatives natin to make it different and not to make it similar to Age of Adaline or even Goblin."
The actor then quipped, "Nauna kami. Hahaha!"
It was in May 2016 when it was first announced to the press that Paulo will co-star in the project The Promise of Forever together with Ejay Falcon and former TV5 actress Ritz Azul.
The cast members started taping in Europe in late May 2016.
A trailer of the series was first shown to the public during the November 2016 trade launch of ABS-CBN's new programs for 2017.
Meanwhile, the American movie Age of Adaline was shown in 2015 and tackled the story of a young woman who became ageless after an accident.
The K-drama Goblin was aired from December 2016 to January 2017 in South Korea.
The series, which was shown in ABS-CBN last May, was about a 939-year-old Goblin searching for his bride, the only person who can remove the sword piercing through his chest so that he can finally move on to the afterlife.
Back in 2010, ABS-CBN showed a concept quite similar to The Promise of Forever. It was an installment of Your Song presents, titled "My Last Romance." It featured Toni Gonzaga as the woman who did not age and Luis Manzano as her lover.
The five-episode series was also produced by Dreamscape Entertainment, the unit helming the production of The Promise of Forever.

FOUR CHARACTERS. In The Promise of Forever, Paulo will play the role of Lorenzo, a man who was born in the late 1800s and was cursed to live forever after an accident.
Because of his immortality, many people experimented on him, hoping to discover his secret. This forced Lorenzo to change his name and personality.
In the presscon, it was revealed that Paulo had to play a character with four different personalities.
He explained, "Nagsimula siya late 1800s. Parang pa-1900s na sa Pilipinas. Kumbaga, nagkaroon kasi ng sakit. May minamahal siya na gustong balikan so gumawa siya ng paraan.
"Mas more than character, katauhan [yung nag-iiba] dahil pinaghahanap siya at may mga masasamang elemento na naghahanap sa kanya dahil gusto nilang malaman kung anong sikreto para hindi mamatay.
"Nag-i-iba siya ng katauhan para maprotektahan niya yung mahal niya sa buhay."
How were they able to shoot different eras in one teleserye?
"Minsan sa isang araw, dalawa, tatlong iba-iba, depende sa eksena at saka sa lugar pero enjoy naman, medyo nakakapagod lang."
This is also the reason why Paulo considers The Promise of Forever as one of his biggest teleseryes to date.
No timeslot has been announced yet for this canned drama series, which is expected to air for one season on ABS-CBN.
