ABS-CBN finally aired the pilot episode of The Promise of Forever, which is touted as the "most expensive teleserye" of the Kapamilya Network.
This is because the canned show of Paulo Avelino, Ritz Azul, and Ejay Falcon was shot in four European countries and the stars also shot scenes onboard a cruise ship.
In the pilot episode, viewers were introduced to an immortal man played by Paulo Avelino.
He tried to cure himself through a serum that caused him to live for 200 to 300 years.
He assumed different identities over the years in order to keep his secret. In 1988, he was known as Lorenzo Espinosa.
Tonton Gutierrez (who plays Marlon Borja) is pursuing Lorenzo but in the process, his father accidentally gets shot and get killed. Marlon then blames Lorenzo for this incident, fueling his anger towards Lorenzo.
Lorenzo also gets shot and dies but because of his condition, he wakes up again after a few hours.
Lorenzo decides to relocate to a province where he meets Sophia (Mutya Orquia). The young girl is taking care of her mother, played by Desiree del Valle. They get turned down by a hospital because they don't have any money.
Paulo's character, who now goes by the name Emil Mendoza, helps Sophia by bringing them to a hospital that treats patients for free.
Unfortunately, Sophia's mother dies and Emil bids farewell to the orphaned girl.
Emil decides to erase his past by setting fire to his house. However, he doesn't realize that Sophia is inside the burning building. He rushes in to save her.
Years later, Sophia is now all grown up (played by Ritz Azul) but she still thinks of Emil, the man who helped her in her time of need.
