Remember Red Sternberg of TGIS fame?
Popularly known for his TGIS character Kiko, Red now reappears on Philippine TV for the first time in 15 years!
This happened during the reunion of TGIS stars Angelu de Leon, Bobby Andrews, Bernadette Allyson, and Michael Flores for GMA-7's Sunday afternoon series Roadtrip.
Now based in the U.S., Red made a surprise video call to his co-stars who were in Bohol at the time for their "Roadtrip reunion."
Red was in his house in Miami, Florida, when he made the video call.
TGIS fans have been looking forward to seeing Red return to the Philippines after almost eleven years of living in the United States.
When Angelu asked if Red would be coming back home, he only answered, "No plans yet. No plans."
Michael then quipped, "Uwi ka na, Bro! Sagot na daw ni Bob yung airfare."
Bobby, meanwhile, said that he was very happy to speak again with Red after many years.
Bobby's words: "That was an unexpected surprise. Getting to talk to Red? Because in all honesty, di na talaga kami nag-uusap."
GMA-7's youth-oriented series TGIS aired from 1995 to 1999.
While doing TGIS, Red was often called "bulol" by the barkada and their director Mark Reyes because he often buckled when delivering his lines.
For this reason, Red's first starring movie was titled It's Cool Bulol (1998). He was paired back then with TGIS co-star Rica Peralejo.
Red's last appearance in showbiz was for the 2002 drama series Sana Ay Ikaw Na Nga, starring Dingdong Dantes and Tanya Garcia.
Aside from Red and Rica, other TGIS stars not present at the reunion were Ciara Sotto, Onemig Bondoc, Raven Villanueva, Jake Roxas, and Diego Castro.
GROUP HUG. Another moment that surely brought nostalgia to TGIS fans was when Angelu, Bobby, Bernadette, and Michael had a group hug!
Back in the '90s, it was TGIS that popularized barkada group hugs.
Bobby said, "Ginagawa 'to ng marami, pero hindi nila alam saan nagsimula."
As they hugged each other, Michael shouted: "Group hug! Yan ang original."
Here are some instances when the TGIS barkada did a group hug for the GMA-7 show and for the movie version shown in 1997.
The Roadtrip episode served as a mini-reunion for the cast of TGIS, in time for their 22nd anniversary as a barkada.
In an exclusive interview with PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) last August, TGIS director Mark Reyes divulged that he was planning a reunion project soon.
However, he clarified, "Pero hindi siya TGIS ha! It's the TGIS people for the project, but it's not TGIS. It's our own initiative."
