“That’s very difficult. My mom didn’t really raise me to speak Tagalog.
“I went to different schools in North Carolina, Texas, California and New York.
"That’s why I adopted so many accents. But I learned how to live in different environments. It was one of the things I enjoyed growing up,” ngiti pa niya.
“I know very little Tagalog and GMA will be giving a Tagalog workshop. I used to take Tagalog lessons but because of my work schedule, I wasn’t able to attend all my classes.
“But now, I am serious about speaking the language for me to further understand and act whatever role they give me.
“That’s a challenge ‘cause most of the instructions that are given to you are in Tagalog.
“Everybody knows I’m learning, but I don’t want them to have to change or make any long process just because I have a language barrier.
“I get a lot of context clues from what’s going on, the way things are being directed and if I have questions I, I ask.”
“I did happen to go to maybe like five different auditions for roles that GMA was looking for including Meant To Be, My Love From The Star, I Heart Davao.
“But Super Ma’am was the perfect role for me to enter like a leading role, but still you know, able to speak some English,” aniya.
“I came to the Philippines to research the mystery behind the jars with an inscription of a Tamawo which is a mythical creature.
“There are mysterious happenings to the students at a school, and one of the teachers takes it on themselves to fix the bad happenings.
“There’s something about that teacher that’s mysterious that I want to find out. You know, her connection with what I’m researching.”
“My Tita is visiting in town and she brought one of her best friends from Guam whose son is getting married to an archaeologist.
“We’ve been running by some ideas about what might it be like to be an archaeologist.
“She’s actually studying jars in Guam which is super coincidental with what my role is.
“A lot of them are in Guam because they’re researching some old and ancient tribes there.”
Nag-enjoy daw si Matthias sa unang taping day niya for Super Ma’am.
“Super fun and I love acting every time. The first day was super short, but I enjoyed the second day more because I had a lot of lines, and I was able to meet most of the main cast."
Sabi pa niya tungkol sa kanyang leading lady: “Working with Marian is good, great. We bonded: on the personal level and so things were good. She’s also very helpful for the scene, letting me know what I should do.”
“I already went to acting workshops that GMA had given us.
“One was with Anthony Bova for Eric Morris.
“I enjoyed acting and I grew up watching lots of movies. And I always thought of myself acting as well. It’s like a whole new thing for me to discover and learn from.
“The rush of feelings and emotions you have kind of take over and that can be implemented in front of the camera.
“We’re kind of using this exploratory workshop which is quite therapeutic actually as an actor because it’s a good way to deal with things,” pagtapos pa ni Matthias Rhoads.
