Alisah Bonaobra, the runner-up in The Voice of the Philippines Season 2, was able to impress all the judges of X Factor UK.
The 22-year-old Filipina singer gave her rendition of “Listen,” which earned for her yeses from Simon Cowell, Nicole Scherzinger, Louis Walsh and Sharon Osbourne.
In a pre-recorded interview, Alisah admitted the hardships that she endured in the Philippines.
"Our life in Manila is very, very tough. When I sing in weddings, all the money goes to my family to help support them. We don't have enough money for ourselves."
She also explained that she comes from a family of sidewalk vendors.
"My family sells packed food on a sidewalk. We put rice in a plastic and we put fork and spoon for them. Here in the UK, it is known as takeaway."
Before Alisah's performance, Simon Cowell told the Pinay singer, "I always think that a lot of people from where you're from are amazing singers."
The young lady born into a family of sidewalk vendors then declared, “I dedicate this fight for my family back in the Philippines.
“I am only here because of my mother’s friend. They just contributed enough money for our plane ticket just to audition here in X Factor UK.”
After nailing the Beyonce hit, Alisah earned a standing ovation from judge Nicole Scherzinger. The former Pussycat Doll member shed tears as she explained:
“I am crying because I come from very humble beginnings as well. You’re just gorgeous. You’re this tiny little thing with a voice given from God. This unbelievable gift blowing everybody away. I connect with you and everybody. It’s a yes for you and all the Filipinos out there.”
Simon Cowell gave his honest opinion about Alisah's performance:
“This is not the best version of this song I’ve ever heard. I’m not going to lie to you. But there’ something about you I really, really like. Great, great, great energy. That was good. I really enjoyed that.”
Louis Walsh also complimented her by saying, “I think she’s adorable. You are a great singer. You are a great person. It was a great audition but there’s something about you that we really like. I am absolutely saying yes.”
Sharon Osbourne was also emotional as she admitted, “I just want to cry. Oh, it’s a yes for me.”
The Filipina singer now moves on to the next round of X Factor UK Season 14.
Alisah was mentored by Black Eyed Peas’ Apl de Ap when she joined The Voice of the Philippines in 2014.
