Filipina singer Alisah Bonaobra got a rare second chance in The X Factor UK.
The former The Voice of the Philippines Season 2 contestant was eliminated at the bootcamp stage after failing to win over judges Simon Cowell, Sharon Osbourne, Louis Walsh, and Nicole Scherzinger.
Alisah, Rai-elle Williams, Natalie Lomax, and Gaga Lord had performed Mariah Carey's "We Belong Together" for the judges.
When the announcement was made that only Rai-elle would move on to the next round, Alisah ended up weeping on stage, pleading, "Please, Simon."
Gaga Lord, who is also a Filipina, comforted her, but Alisah just kept crying, nearly squatting on the floor.
The faces of the judges showed they were taken aback by this display of emotion.
It would not be farfetched to say that the audience was a little embarrassed for the Filipina girl.
There was a bit too much drama not normally seen among contestants who regularly accept the judges' decision as final.
In fact, Simon articulated this, saying it was not just him that made the decision but all four judges.
Judge Nicole then went backstage to speak privately with Alisah.
Alisah can be heard telling Nicole, "I just can't go home like this."
Nicole then told her, "What do you want to do? I need you to talk to me."
Alisah, who was still in tears, pleaded, "Can I have a second chance? Please."
The Filipina then belted out the chorus of "We Belong Together."
All this could be heard by the other three judges.
After Alisah's impromptu singing, Nicole brought her back onstage.
It was then that Simon told Alisah, "Based on what you've just done there, from what I can hear, we can give you a pass on this one."
SOLO PERFORMANCE. For Alisah's next solo performance, she performed the song "Defying Gravity" from the musical Wicked.
Simon said to her, "So you got a point to prove now, haven't you?"
Asked why she chose this song, Alisah answered, "I chose 'Defying Gravity' because this is me, this is my life, and I just want to own this stage right now."
After her performance, judges Nicole and Sharon gave her a standing ovation.
But 22-year-old Pinay singer impressed the four judges enough to make them decide to send her to the next round, which is dubbed the Six Chair Challenge.
Win or not, hopefully there are no more tears from the Pinay singer.
