According to Lilybeth G. Rasonable, GMA-7's Senior Vice President For Entertainment, the afternoon series Ika-6 Na Utos made the year 2017 a "great" one for the Kapuso network.
She said this during an exclusive interview with PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) at the Paskong Kapuso Christmas Party for the Press.
"2017 was so great especially because of Ika-6 Na Utos. We just celebrated our first year anniversary.
"Because it was so strong, we decided to stretch it to Saturday. This is the first soap that has ran from Monday to Saturday and beating all competition, and after a year, still the number one daytime program in the Philippines.
"Kaya ayun, sobrang great ng 2017!"
According to AGB ratings, Ika-6 Na Utos has been consistently winning in the ratings game throughout its run for the year.
It is now the most-watched daytime program, beating GMA-7's noontime show Eat Bulaga and its ABS-CBN rival It's Showtime.
Even though it is performing strongly in the ratings game, Ika-6 Na Utos is not spared from bashers, especially since the show is known for its creative but campy fight scenes between lead stars Sunshine Dizon and Ryza Cenon.
Rasonable said about this, "Well, bashers will be bashers, that's what they do. But well, you cannot argue with success.
"They bash, but actually, yung mga ginagawa namin dun, intentional. It's really camp.
"Direk Laurice [Guillen] has intentionally directed it that way, yung pagka-camp niya.
"Pero, di ba, yung performance ng mga artista, feel na feel naman nila, which has won them awards, even internationally.
"So we cannot be anything else but happy."
In September 2017, lead actor Gabby Concepcion accepted his Asian Star Prize at the 12th Seoul International Awards while Sunshine was named Best Actress at the Gawad Amerika Awards last November 18.
AFTERNOON PRIME IN 2018. Since it has been running for more than a year now, viewers are expecting Ika-6 Na Utos to end by 2018.
The lady boss of GMA, however, doesn't want to confirm anything yet.
She said, "Well, I don't want to say. E, paano kung gusto pa talaga ng tao dahil kung mataas pa ang ratings, na hanggang ngayon nga, sabi ko nga, after a year, it is rating the same ratings as when it was still starting, so ibig sabihin, gusto pa siya ng tao."
Despite the high ratings of Ika-6 Na Utos, as well as the exceptional performance of the Kapuso afternoon shows Impostora and Haplos, Rasonable divulged that new shows are already being prepared.
"Of course, we have to prepare for their replacements and even if we are so happy with Ika-6 Na Utos, sooner or later, all good things will come to an end.
"We know that, pag siguro naisip namin na masyado nang OA, mangyayari din, yun even if we don't want to."
In fact, weeks after this interview, GMA-7 released an omnibus plug of the network's upcoming shows for the first quarter of 2018, including its scheduled airing months.
These include The Stepdaughters, Contessa, and Hindi Ko Kayang Iwan Ka.
At press time, Hindi Ko Kayang Iwan Ka, starring Yasmien Kurdi, is already airing teasers on TV.
Rasonable said about the project, "Of course, yung HIV, we are encouraged by Someone To Watch Over Me when we talked about early onset Alzheimer's Disease.
"We wanted to do something, this time about AIDS, and its the same creator din of Someone To Watch."
