Mikoy Morales is confident with the outcome of his upcoming fantasy program Sirkus, which he top-bills with Mikee Quintos. "Pagkita namin noong playback at saka yung initial draft ng first episode, parang pelikula siya. Ang ganda!

GMA-7 is set to launch a new weekly fantasy program titled Sirkus.

Produced by GMA News and Public Affairs, the TV series is top-billed by Kapuso artists Mikoy Morales and Mikee Quintos.

Teasers have been airing on the Kapuso network before 2017 ended. It is set to air its pilot episode this January.

In an exclusive interview with PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) during the 2017 Christmas Party for the Press, Mikoy divulged details about the upcoming project, which also features veteran actress Cherie Gil.

According to the actor, the trailer received favorable reactions from upper management of GMA.

He said with a smile, "I think tapos na yung trailer, they reviewed it and I think it really got good reviews from the people upstairs."

"Kahit naman kami, even before that, si Mikee kasi kasama ko dito, e, sila Tito Gardo [Versoza], Ate Chariz [Solomon], Cherie Gil, of course! And Andre [Paras].

"Sobrang yun lang, yung cast talaga, kami kami lang talaga. Sobrang close na namin lahat tapos iba yung build-up ng group namin, yung bond.

"I'm sure, sinasabi 'yan sa madaming shows, sa madaming cast, pero ito, masasabi kong iba talaga yung bond."

Mikoy is confident that the show will get good reviews from audiences.

He elaborated, "Ever since, I really had a good feeling about the show. Pagpresent pa lang ng concept sa akin, parang, 'Uy, promising.'

"'Tapos, noong in-execute pa, ang hirap! Pero pagkita namin noong playback at saka yung initial draft ng first episode, parang pelikula siya. Ang ganda!

"I'm really confident about this material. I just hope, sana lang, makalugar siya ng maayos among all the shows. It's really a different flavor to TV programming, I think. Iba ito."

"NAGPA-TOTOY." Mikoy, who is 24 years old in real life, will portray a 16-year-old boy in Sirkus.

Actors tapped to portray characters older than themselves often go to the gym to look more mature and buff.

In the case of Mikoy, who is eight years older than his character, he also resorted to going to the gym but with a different purpose.

"Nag-gym ako pero hindi nagbulk up, nagpa-totoy talaga ako. Medyo mas soggy and very lean.

"Very young Mikoy makikita nila dito, nagulat din ako for the role.

"Parang ang unang sinabi sa akin was 16 years old yung character ko, so parang yun na yung pinaka-gist niya tapos kambal kami ni Mikee.

"Everything else na traits ng character, malapit na sa akin, e. At least may challenge na ako ngayon paano ako magiging 16, bagets!"

According to him, Sirkus is best watched with family members.

"This is, amongst all the TV roles I had, ito yung pinaka family-oriented talaga.

"Ito yung pinaka mapapakita niya yung side ng parang pagiging kapatid ko. Kasi may kapatid ako in real life, e, so natutuwa ako na I get to be that person in this show."

COMPARISONS. Mikoy said that the show might have a prime-time slot during the weekend.

For this reason, there is a chance that Sirkus might be compared to other fantasy shows airing on that timeslot, including ABS-CBN's Wansapantaym.

PEP.ph asked Mikoy if he feels pressure that Sirkus might get these comparisons.

He answered, "Hindi naman. You know you're gonna have a good show if... of course, the ratings. Kailangan maganda ratings mo kasi it's still a business.

"Pero you know you have a good show if you're having fun in it and iba yuung energy niya, e.

"So ako, mapresent lang na maganda yung materyal, at mapanindigan lang yung consistency niya, masaya na ako dun.

"Regardless kung maputol kami, masakit yun, pero yun yung definition ko ng isang successful na show, e. Yung epekto niya sa tao and yung production niya mismo. This time, I'm really confident and it's gonna be really different for all of us."
