KZ Tandingan continues to showcase Filipino talent in China’s top-rating show Singer 2018 as a regular contender.
The Pinoy singer placed fourth out of eight in her third episode aired on February 23, 2018.
Did you know that KZ wasn't supposed to perform "Say Something" for the show's seventh week?
KZ revealed in an interview with ABS-CBN News that this song was not her first choice since the producers picked "Say Something" for her.
"Nagpalit lang sila ng kanta the night before, so medyo nagulantang ako," admitted KZ. "Pero at least, yung pinalit na kanta—sila na yung pumili, e—medyo alam ko."
The Kapamilya singer struggled to finish rehearsing the chosen song just hours before her performance.
"Kaya lang, pinabago pa rin nila yung arrangement. So parang 6 a.m., nag-aareglo pa kami para lang mayroon akong makanta noong gabi."
Before KZ performed onstage, British pop star Jessie J was shown cheering for the Pinoy singer.
"Go, girl!" shouted Jessie while watching from the contenders' viewing room.
When asked for her assessment of her acoustic version of "Say Something," KZ observed:
"Medyo nagulat! Yung reaction ng mga tao noong nag-Mandarin ako, parang mas maingay, compared doon sa 'Say Something' na performance, so feeling ko, 'Oh my gosh, baka mas mababa sa rank six yung ranking ko.' Sobrang unpredictable talaga, e."
KZ, who hopes to break into the Chinese music industry with her stint on Singer 2018, will perform again in the coming episodes and face a new challenger. To be able to be part of the finals happening on April 13, she must not land at the bottom spot every week.
The ABS-CBN singer dubbed as The Soul Supreme made headlines when she joined the February 9 episode of the show as a challenger and gave a winning rendition of Adele’s original hit “Rolling in the Deep.” KZ ended up securing the top spot, beating her music idol Jessie J.
