Aiza Seguerra, now known as Ice, reveals: "When I started working with the government ang dami kong natanggihan na offer na show sa TV."

Present sa contract renewal sina Universal Records Executive Vice President Ramon Chuaying, General Manager Kathleen Dy Go, Operations Manager Peter Chan, at Head of OPM Production Ito Rapadas.

“No, it wasn’t there. But they will use na yung name ko as Ice. Yun siguro ang maganda sa Universal, you know like, they don’t see me just as an artist but they see me as a human being. I think that’s very important, that respect.

“They asked me, which is very good kasi I appreciate that. Alam mo yung hindi sila [nagsabi na], ‘Aiza na lang para bumenta tayo,' alam mo yun?

“Sa totoo lang, kung yun ang nangyari I’d be very offended kasi parang this is me now, di ba? Parang, I’m an artist, despite of who I am, but I appreciate the fact that they respected how I want to be called, who I am and it only goes to show that the relationship that we have is more than business. It’s a relationship.”

Nagdesisyon ba siya even before magpalit si Charice Pempengco ng kanyang pangalan at naging si Jake Zyrus?

“Oh, no, way before kasi I came out way before him. So, ayun.”

Last year, may ginawa ba siyang malaking concert to celebrate his 30th year in showbiz?

“None at all,” malungkot niyang sabi.

“Actually, hindi yun ang plano ko kasi siyempre yun ang 30th ko, e.

“I actually plan to do a movie. Marami akong plano sa buhay ko. Plano ko gumawa ng album, plano kong gumawa ng movie, walang nangyari ni isa.”

Did he regret that?

“No, I don’t at all,” sambit niya.

“Sinubukan ko yung ibang mundo and I actually, very fulfilled that time because yun yung time na naka-ikot ako. I got to know our kababayans and the problems they’re facing, you know. Where am I in this whole spectrum of things?

“So, happy ako. Hindi ko nire-regret yun.

“But I want to make up for that. Pwede pa naman.

“Siguro kapag natapos na ang term ko [sa government], maybe I could start doing films again, do TV show.”

“Actually, may mga ano before, e. When I started working with the government, ang dami kong natanggihan na offer na show sa TV.”

Anong TV network?

“Secret,” pagtangging i-reveal ni Ice.

“Pero nandoon pa rin naman yun [offer]. Pero siyempre, since nasa government pa rin ako, medyo hirap ako pagdating sa oras. Kasi siyempre alam mo naman natin when you do a teleserye, it takes, your life, your whole life. Hehe.

“Siguro pagkatapos na, three years naman ‘to, e. Pero pwede ka pa ulit ire-appoint for another three years. And that’s it.”

ICE THE SONGWRITER. Ice inked a two-year contract again with Universal, his fourth recording label since he started his singing career in 2001.

“Well, of course, you know naman, history ko I started with Alpha. And then, it became Vicor [Records]. Tapos sa Star Records, and now, wiith Universal.

“I think, bawat [recording] company may kanya-kanyang, iba’t ibang mission, vision ‘yan, e. May iba’t ibang goals ika nga. And siguro nagkataon that ‘yung goals ko pareho sa kanila, nag-swak.

“Siyempre happy ako na kinuha pa rin nila [Universal] ako.

“Alam mo sa totoo lang, they’ve been very accommodating.

“My first album with Universal Records yung Araw Gabi na compilation ng mga kanta ni Mr. C [Ryan Cayabyab] noong 2015.

“Happy lang ako kasi, alam mo yung, I was supposed to do another album nung 2017. Kaso, that was the time I really got busy with government.

“Siyempre, they [Universal] have been asking me when you can start with the album. I felt so bad kasi siyempre, sabi ko, ‘Miss Kat, as much as I would want to do one now,’ e, yun yung bagung-bago pa lang ako sa government.

“So, hindi ko kaya yung dalawa yung focus ko. Kasi ang ganda ng nangyari doon sa Ryan Cayabyab na album, and because alam ko rin yung effort na nilagay ko doon. Yung puso ko nilagay ko doon, yung kaluluwa ko, na ayokong ma-shortchange yung pangawala.

“Parang ayoko, and they do not deserve that. They do not deserve less than 100% from me. So, ayun.

“Gusto ko kapag gumawa ako ng album, yung utak ko, yung puso ko andoon. So, happy lang ako they understood that, alam mo yun?

“Kasi it’s easy to tell me, 'sorry.' They could have done that, but they did not.”

May nabuo na ba siyang concept for his second album with Universal Records?

“Uhm, originals na kami ngayon. ‘Yan ang hinihintay ng mga tao.

“Siguro, parang, kasi I celebrated my 30 years in showbiz last year. As a singer, 2001 ako nag-start, e. So, almost 20 years na sa music. I enjoy performing, I enjoy singing. I enjoy singing other people’s songs.

“Pero if there’s one thing na hindi ko pa talaga nagagawa is to really come out with an album na talagang ako yung sumulat ng mga kanta.

“May mga sinulat ako pero paisa-isa. Hindi lumabas as single, hindi ganoon. Talagang, siguro ang pinakanasulat ko lang na hindi pa ako ang kumanta na lumabas as a single, bakit hindi pa ako ang kumanta?

“Ah, collaboration with Juris noon, e, for ‘Di Lang Ikaw.’ We wrote that together.

“Now, sa gagawin kong album, hindi naman siguro ako lahat ang susulat ng kanta for the album. Hopefully, kasi marami rin akong naipon.

“So, ngayon kasi, as an artist, meron akong dalawang kahinaan. It’s me writing my own songs and me collaborating with other artists. Kasi I’m such an introvert that...hirap ako. Hirap ako to really collaborate.

“So, my wife [Liza Dino], siya yung nagsasabi sa akin, ‘Love, you know, kailangan mong i-get over yung dalawang yun. So, that’s why I think for me this album is very personal because this is really, there’s me writing songs also and working with other artists.”

Siguro meron na akong four or five songs.”

Ilan pa ang kailangan niyang kanta for his new album?

“In terms with the details like how many cuts in the album, wala pa kami doon. Pero we’re planning to release singles first.

“Target namin is around second quarter of 2018. Meron ng songs. Tatlo yung binabalak namin, e. Ah, isa yung ako ang sumulat. And there’s another song na young person naman ang sumulat. Batang songwriter but she’s very good. Then, we’re thinking of one more.”

So, we might. Let’s see. I want to. Gusto ko talaga. Meron na siyang nasulat pero gusto ko kasi magsulat kami together. May isa siyang nagawa.

“Actually, siya yung lyrics, ang sumulat ng music si Top Suzara. Yun ang wedding gift niya sa akin.

“Ano nga title? Nakalimutan ko, e. Maganda yung title, e.

“Sa ngayon, well, [Liza is] very busy with her government work. For my agency, of course, we still pursuing Sine Kabataan in time for Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino sa August.”

Mukhang marami siyang gustong gawin this year.

“Ang dami ‘no,” ngiti ni Ice. “Pero sa ngayon, album muna, and of course, shows kasi yun naman ang bread and butter ng mga singer.”

How true na siya ang may pinakamalaking talent fee among our local singers?

“No,” iling niya. “I’m one of the cheapest, seriously. I’ve seen yung sa ibang singer, e."
