Sylvia Sanchez admits that her afternoon series Hanggang Saan struggled in the ratings game during its first few months on ABS-CBN. It was the first time she got to work closely with son Arjo Atayde for a full-length series.

Sylvia Sanchez admitted that her teleserye Hanggang Saan struggled in terms of TV ratings during its first few months on ABS-CBN.

She said this during the finale press conference of the teleserye last April 17, after she was asked by a reporter about the fulfillment she felt upon doing this series with her real-life son Arjo Atayde.

"Of course, noong una, nangangapa kaming dalawa then alam naman natin yun, noong umpisa, yung rating, talagang lumalaban pa kami then finally nag-shoot up kami, umangat kami.

Later in the Q&A, PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) asked Sylvia how they felt about the show's somewhat weak performance in the ratings game.

Sylvia understands that viewers now have different tastes in terms of programming, compared to the time when she was still starring in the afternoon teleserye The Greatest Love, which became a hit.

In the series, she played Gloria, a mother who was diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease.

Part of Gloria's personality was keeping calm and forgiving despite the mean streak of her children towards her.

She continued, "Kaya yung production talaga, binuo nila, inayos nila kasi from The Greatest Love, iba na ngayon ang tema, e.

Sylvia revealed that there were times when the production, which was headed by production manager Mark Gile and business unit head Ginny Ocampo, would regroup and ask themselves about the performance of Hanggang Saan.

So binuo nila Mark, nila Miss Ginny yun and thank God, nabuo.

Hanggang Saan main villain Ariel Rivera also shared his thoughts as to why the show had a rough start.

He believes that Hanggang Saan's premiere date—November 27, 2017—was a tricky date to air a new show.

He said, "To be fair naman to the show, to the director, to the artist and to the writers, I thought we are put in a time where it wasn't the right time to start, the end of November.

"Kahit na you gain a few weeks of momentum, suddenly magka-cut because of the Christmas season.

"I think we are put in a precarious date, so I think that's one of the reasons.

"I always thought when they told me the story ang ganda ng istorya niya, and looking at the cast, magagaling naman talaga.

"I think it's just a matter of... it was hard to get a momentum because the time we are put in, November 27, tapos when you're getting momentum of the story, biglang Christmas season, alam naman natin everybody's doing their own stuff so that's to be fair to the writers kasi maganda yung story."

After five months of being on the air, Hanggang Saan will air its final episode on April 27.

The afternoon show also features Sue Ramirez, Teresa Loyzaga, Maris Racal, and Yves Flores.

KONTRABIDA ROLE. Before Sylvia got lead roles in television, she was known as a kontrabida.

One of the most notable kontrabida roles she played on TV was being the abusive adoptive mother of Judy Ann Santos in the 1997 series Esperanza.

PEP.ph asked her if she would still be willing to accept a villain role for her future projects.

Sylvia's last kontrabida role was in the 2012 afternoon series Mundo Man Ay Magunaw.

However, before she breathes life to a new character, the 46-year-old actress wishes to take a break from TV.

"Pahinga muna, yes, kasi this time talaga kasi after TGL, ito, sunud-sunod and I'm sure kapag meron pang isa after nito, magsasawa ang tao sa akin at ayoko mangyari yun.

What's next? Honestly, don't get me wrong, thankful ako na naging Sonya ako at Gloria ako.

Ako yung nanay so bawat eksena, yung emosyon nabibigay ko ng buong-buo.

"So sabi ko, pahinga muna ako.
