From being a juror, singer Jed Madela gets to interact more personally with the contestants of Your Face Sound Familiar (YFSF) Kids Season 2 by taking on the role of a mentor.
“Sobrang excited. Ako, personally, I really love mentoring aspiring artists, lalo na kids pa,” he told PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) in a short interview after YFSF Kids press conference held last week.
He continued, “Ang sarap ng feeling na nakaka-impart ako ng mga natututunan ko throughout the years lalo na, for example, may itinuro ako 'tapos ginawa nila, nakaka-fulfill as a mentor.”
Teaching aspiring singers is not new for Jed as he also mentors young singers who are joining World Championship of Performing Arts (WCOPA).
How does Jed plan to guide the kids for their performances in the show?
“Ako kasi, every artist is different yung treatment ko sa pagtuturo.
“For example with these kids, yung tinuro ko sa tatlo, yung [Bigshot] Trio, hindi siya applicable na ituro kay Esang or kay Marco or kay Noel, so very personalized.
“Ang ginagawa ko kasi hahanapin ko kung ano ang strengths nila.
“Then, I will use that strength and if ever may mga weakness sila, doon ang medyo aayusin natin, doon natin ipe-personalize.
“I'm very unorthodox. I'm not the type na very teknikal masyado.
“I'm more on using what the artist has 'tapos doon ko pinapaganda.”
Through his Twitter account, Jed explained why he could not serve as a juror in ABS-CBN's reality talent competition.
Joining Jed as mentor is former YFSF contestant Nyoy Volante.
The contestants of Your Face Sound Familiar Kids Season 2 are:
“Anghel ng Masa” Marco Masa who starred in values-oriented primetime teleseryes Nathaniel and My Super D before dabbling in comedy via Goin’ Bulilit.
“Bulilit Kikay” Chun-Sa, who first appeared on television and became popular for her impersonation of Maja Salvador in It’s Showtime’s “Mini Me” competition.
“Bibong Astig” Onyok Pineda who rose to fame when he impersonated rock icon Bamboo in “Mini Me.” Later on, he became a household name for his performances in FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano and the movie Ang Panday.
“Kiddie Kontesera” Esang De Torres, meanwhile, will use her experience in singing contests, notably The Voice Kids and “Mini Me.” Her stints in famous musicals such as Les Miserables and Matilda the Musical may give herself an edge in the competition.
“Inday Wonder” Sheena Belarmino is also a singing pro who has proven her voice in many singing competitions, including It's Showtime's “Tawag ng Tanghalan Kids,” where she was named one of the grand finalists.
“Precious Darling” Krystal Brimner can hold her own both on stage and on-cam, proving her talent when she starred in the 2016 Philippine production of the musical Annie. She also won the Best Child Performer award at the 2015 Metro Manila Film Festival for Honor Thy Father.
“Poging Lodi” Noel Comia Jr. is a former The Voice Kids contestant. He is also in a league of his own as he has already starred in several theatrical productions, won three Aliw Awards, and bagged Cinemalaya Awards’ Best Actor trophy—the youngest actor ever to have done so—for the film Kiko Boksingero.
The “Bigshot Trio” of online sensations Francis Concepcion, Mackie Empuerto, and Keifer Sanchez or TNT Boys are also joining the program to show they mean serious business. They are determined to follow up their viral vocal showdowns, more recently in Little Big Shots UK, with more breathtaking transformations.
Returning to the program are host Billy Crawford; and jurors Mr. Pure Energy Gary Valenciano, multiplatinum singer and songwriter Ogie Alcasid, and Megastar Sharon Cuneta, who will comment on and rank the kiddie performers’ performances.
Just like in the past seasons, the competition will pit the kiddie performers against each other but no one will be eliminated.
In every episode, the kid who gets the highest number of points from the jurors will take home the cash prize, half of which will be given to their chosen charity.
Don’t miss the premiere of Your Face Sounds Familiar Kids on May 5 and 6 on ABS-CBN.
