Game of Thrones stars Jessica Henwick and Finn Jones to visit Manila

Game of Thrones stars who played Nymeria Sand (right) and Loras Tyrell (left) will be at the SMX Convention Center for the AsiaPOP Comicon to be held from July 27 to 29, 2018.


Game of Thrones actors Finn Jones and Jessica Henwick will be in Manila for the 2018 AsiaPOP Comicon (APCC).

English actors Finn Jones and Jessica Henwick will be at the SMX Convention Center for the AsiaPOP Comicon this July 27 to 29.

Jones played Loras Tyrell, one of the skilled knights in HBO’s Game of Thrones. His character was the secret lover of Renly Baratheon. Jones was also cast as Danny Rand in the 1st and 2nd seasons of Netflix’s Iron Fist. In addition to this, he was previously seen in other Marvel series such as The Defenders and Luke Cage.

Henwick, the first East Asian actress seen in a lead role in a UK TV series, was also in Game of Thrones as Nymeria Sand. She was also cast as Jessika Pava in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and Colleen Wing in Netflix’s Iron Fist and The Defenders. Henwick's mother is Chinese-Singaporean and her father is British, and she was born and raised in England.

The announcement was made by the Director of Marketing and International Business of Al Ahli Holding Group, Abdulla Mahmood, during the July 17 press briefing held at the SMX Convention Center for the APCC event to be held in the Philippines.

Mahmood promised a second series of similarly exciting announcements soon.

Besides Finn and Henwick, the AsiaPOP Comicon will also feature award-winning comic book artists and popular cosplayers. 

Lan Medina, the first Filipino artist to grab the prestigious Will Eisner Comic Industry Award, will be present. Medina is a multi-awarded comic book illustrator who worked on Vertigo-DC’s Fables, and Marvel’s Venom Carnage, Cable / Deadpool, Silver Surfer, and Punisher.

Fil-Am comic book artist, Whilce Portacio, will also be in this year’s APCC for the fourth time. His popular works include Uncanny X-men, The Punisher, X-men, Heroes reborn: Iron Man, Wetworks, Spawn. He also founded Image Comics.

Alex Sinclair, a Mexican comic-book colorist responsible for Astro City, Batman: Hush, Alan Moore’s Top 10, Harley Quinn, Superman, and WildCATs, will be present; as well as DC and Marvel Comics artist Mike McKone. Artist and painter Phil Noto – most known for his works on Jonah Hex, X-23, Black Widow, Uncanny X-Force, and in Disney’s The Lion King, Mulan, Pocahontas, Lilo & Stitch, will be seen in APCC.

Brian Ian Muir, the designer and respected sculptor who designed Darth Vader’s helmet in the Star Wars trilogy, including the head gear of the Storm Troopers, will also be attending.

Simone Legno, the Italian co-founder of the Japanese-inspired brand tokidoki, is set to bring the popular kawaii-style to Manila.

Cosplayer Canvas Cosplay (Philip Odango), an award-winning Fil-Am costume designer popular for his Disney’s Moana, Maui cosplay, will be present as well as Italian cosplayer Leon Chiro.

Announcements on APCC’s collaboration with Netflix, Marvel, and other studios will soon be revealed.

Tickets are now available at all SM Tickets outlets. A day-pass costs P650, two-day passes is P950, and a three-day pass is P1,150.

Singapore-based Universal Events and Entertainment, a subsidiary of UAE conglomerate Al Ahli Holding Group, is the organizer of the AsiaPOP Comicon.

Now on its fourth year, previous editions of the pop culture event featured Hollywood stars Paul Bettany, Millie Bobby Brown, and Ray Fisher, among others.
