Neil Rey Garcia Llanes landed on third place in Asia's Got Talent Season 2. Auditions for AGT Season 3 will take place this Saturday, June 30, at the Quezon Memorial Circle.

From doing small gigs to winning third place in Asia’s Got Talent Season 2, the life of Neil Rey Garcia Llanes changed after competing in AGT twice.

The Sacred Riana, an illusionist from Indonesia, won as the grand champion in Asia’s Got Talent Season 2. DMX Comvaleñoz, an all-Filipino dance group from Compostela Valley, landed on second place while Neil placed third.

Everything was going smoothly for Neil in the first season. The contestant from Davao City was one of the eight semi-finalists back then. This changed abruptly, however, after his backing out due to the show’s schedule being in conflict with his studies.

Neil told (Philippine Entertainment Portal) through an email interview: "My biggest sacrifice is that last Season 1, I backed out because I needed to prioritize my studies. Even if I am already qualified for the semi finals that time but still I decided to choose first my studies. After that, I finished my degree and got a diploma. That's why I am back in Season 2 to continue my journey in AGT."

Not easily discouraged, he took a second shot at joining the pan-Asian talent show. This time, both judges and audiences received him with more vigor, even giving him a standing ovation on his audition for AGT2.

"I joined AGT because I want to continue what I've left last Season 1. I want to pursue my dream to join again in Asia's Got Talent and to show my talent to everyone.”

ON SHARING HIS TALENT. Neil found his life’s calling through his talent in beatboxing. Since then, he has been using it to positively influence young fans.

“Beatboxing just came to me without any person telling me to do it. I just feel that this talent is a talent that something...there is purpose. God gave me this talent to inspire people especially the youth and those hopeless in life.”

Despite not having the full confidence of his family growing up, faith and purpose stopped him from giving up on his dreams.

“Before, my family had doubts about my talent but I proved to them that my talent will lead me into the right path in life. I just pray and go with the flow, I always bear in mind that I never beatbox just for myself. I am doing this for everyone to make them happy and inspired.”

LIFE AFTER AGT. Neil may not have been Asia’s Got Talent 2’s champion, he still remains grateful for the show’s significant effect in his life.

“My life changed after I joined AGT Season 1 and 2. My perception in life has changed from being negative to positive person. There are a lot of people who recognized me in different places in our city in Davao and also in other places in our country, the Philippines, and even around the world. I am now more eager to reach my dreams in life.”

As Asia’s Got Talent opens its doors again for the third season, Neil offers encouragement to the new batch of contestants who dream of sharing their talents just like him.

“My tip for the next batch in AGT: Just enjoy the moment. If you love your talent don't be afraid to show it to the world. Don't be afraid of the judges. Remember you are performing for everyone not only for them. Don't think that you are joining a competition. Just enjoy each second and every moment when you are on AGT, when you step on that stage, tell yourself, 'This once in a blue moon opportunity, this is my chance now!' If you fail, don't be afraid--just accept the possibilities to win or lose. Always remember, you are blessed. Just be yourself and good luck!”
