GMA-7's Prime-time Drama Kings Dingdong Dantes and Dennis Trillo are joining forces for the upcoming drama series Cain at Abel.
This marks their fourth drama project together: Endless Love (2010), Etheria: Ang Ika-Limang Kaharian ng Encantadia (2005), and Twin Hearts (2003).
What makes this project unique is the fact they are both sharing the title roles.
In an interview with PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal), GMA-7 Senior Vice President for Entertainment Lilybeth Rasonable divulged details about the upcoming project.
How did they come up with the idea of joining the two Kapuso drama kings in one project?
Rasonable explained, "Kasi parang yung program, the story is about two brothers.
"While many are also deserving of the roles or the characters, Dingdong and Dennis have been doing so many soaps in the past na tig-isa lang sila.
"Pero parang ang sarap, parang casting coup at malaking project kapag pinagsama mo yung dalawang primetime king, drama king, parehong best actors.
"So kailangan natin ng matinding... yung parang pagka ganitong dalawang magkapatid, kailangan matindi.
"Each one will give the other a run for the one so kailangan, ganun yung effect niya sa tao na hindi ka makapili or matutuwa ka sa bawat performance."
Dingdong and Dennis are both excited to work with each other again, according to Rasonable.
She added, "Siguro, nakatulong na rin na they had a performance for the concert in the States so parang lalo silang nagbond.
"So when they found out that they're going to work with each other, they really welcomed it and they are excited to work together."
In 2014, it was announced that Alden Richards and Aljur Abrenica would be doing a movie under GMA Films titled Cain at Abel.
In a past interview with Alden, he said the story is about two best friends "'tapos magsisiraan po kaming dalawa."
Adolf Alix Jr. was assigned back then to direct the project.
However, the movie did not push through.
According to Rasonable, the Cain at Abel project of Alden and Aljur is different from this series.
The show is also not a remake of the 1982 film top-billed by Christopher de Leon and Philip Salvador.
She told PEP.ph, "Ay hindi, ibang-iba yun. It was a different concept but it was for movie.
"Kasi di ba yung Cain at Abel, ang tagal na rin naman niyan, with Philip and Christopher. Ibang-iba.
"So dito, yun lang concept ng magkatunggaling magkapatid pero ibang-iba. This is not a remake at all."
Aside from Dingdong and Dennis, other Kapuso stars who are included in the show are Solenn Heussaff, Sanya Lopez, Chanda Romero, Ronnie Henares, and Carlo Gonzalez.
The show will be directed by Mark Reyes and Don Michael Perez.
