Angelu de Leon says that GMA-7's afternoon drama, Inagaw na Bituin, is the perfect show for her acting comeback.
It has been more than a year since the '90s actress did a teleserye. She was last seen in Mulawin vs. Ravena aired in 2017.
In 2018, she had a one-week appearance in the pilot episode of the afternoon series, The Stepdaughters.
In an exclusive interview with PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) after the press conference of Inagaw na Bituin last February 1, Angelu explained why it took a while before she accept a regular TV project.
She said, "Siguro kasi, parang siguro, things were in its proper timing [now].
"Parang minsan, pag nagta-trabaho ka tapos everyday ka na nagwowork, parang namimiss mo na yung pamilya mo.
"Tapos, not for anything, kukuha ka ng trabaho, sandali lang—that’s what I did with Stepdaughters kasi nga, mamimiss mo.
"And then you realize, wait lang, let’s wait for something nice, something na mae-excite akong gawin.
"Kasi matsa-challenge ka, not just with your acting skills, but bilang tao kung sino yung makakasalamuha mo. Yun yung importante. Gusto kong lumabas para mag grow, aalis muna ako sa comfort zone ko."
Adding excitement to her acting comeback is the fact that she will get to work with Sunshine Dizon, Angelika dela Cruz, Gabby Eigenmann, and most especially Marvin Agustin.
It may be recalled that Angelu is one of the lead stars in GMA-7 and VIVA Television's '90s teen-oriented series, TGIS. Back then, Marvin was a cast member of its rival program in ABS-CBN, Gimik.
"To be working with Sunshine, Marvin... si Marvin, lalo na kasi siyempre yung generation namin, hindi mo 'yan makakasama kasi sa iba [TV network]!
"Makakasama mo the likes na si Gabby, very interesting not just as a human being but as an actor.
"Si Angelika din na nakakasama mo pag mga binyag, yun yung mga exciting.
"Tapos si Direk Mark [Reyes] din na doon ka nag umpisa, it was just the right recipe na talagang mahirap humindi."
Angelu's new series, which is top-billed by Kyline Alcantara and Therese Malvar, will air its pilot episode today, February 11, on GMA Afternoon Prime.
Angelu's TGIS co-star, Michael Flores, is also part of Inagaw na Bituin's pilot week.
In the show, they will play a married couple who kidnapped Kyline's character, the child of Sunshine Dizon and Marvin Agustin.
Michael's Iking character will be killed, while Angelu's Aurora will raise Kyline as her own daughter.
When PEP.ph asked Angelu about this, she quipped, "Sabi ko nga, 'Oh, baka magalit si Bobby, charot!"
Bobby is Bobby Andrews, Angelu's love-team partner in TGIS.
"Pero actually, ako yung nagsabi kay Direk Mark, 'Direk, very perfect si Iking kay Michael Flores.'
"'Tapos we were joking na, 'Sana pahabain yung role mo, ano?' 'Tapos niloko ko siya, 'Hindi talagang pang pilot ka, kinuha kita pang pilot!'
"So yun yung mga gusto mong pasukang trabaho that you can be yourself and then yet you can be creative.
"'Tapos alam mo yung may listening ear, hindi ka parang palamuti lang diyan na kinuha ka na parang wala lang, echos lang."
Now that the Kapuso show is about to air, Angelu is curious to see how her character will turn out in future episodes.
"Yun nga rin iniisip ko, ano yung transition ng character niya kasi sa totoo, noong kinukunan namin siya, mabait talaga siya, e.
"Mabait talaga siya so parang ang sarap isipin kung paano gagawin o irereveal ng mga writers na may mga taong nagbabago, whether from good to bad, from bad to good.
"Yun yung interesting na nae-excite din ako sa transition ni Aurora, na parang hindi mo alam kasi pag inisip mo, parang lahat sila pwede mong makaaway, e.
"Kasi parang everybody wants a piece of Kyline, e. Lahat parang siya yung missing link na pag nakuha siya ng isang kampo, mabubuo sila, e, gusto rin ng isang kampo, makuha siya.
"Parang it’s a blackhole kasi lahat pwedeng mangyari, lahat pwedeng maganap, lahat pwedeng mag-change in a snap."
Inagaw na Bituin also features Manolo Pedrosa, Renz Valerio, and veteran actress Jackie Lou Blanco in important roles.
