"Betty La Fea" begins her makeover

The ugly duckling Betty La Fea (played by Bea Alonzo) is on her way to becoming a beautiful swan in the ABS-CBN TV series. Now that she is part of the "New You" contest, viewers can expect a new Betty to emerge soon.

Ever since I Love Betty La Fea aired on ABS-CBN in September 2008, viewers have been avidly following the story of the geeky looking girl blessed with an intelligent mind but hidden underneath bushy hair, thick glasses, and braces.

In a previous episode of Betty La Fea, the lead female character was hurt deeply when her boyfriend Armando insulted her by saying, "Pinagtanggol kita kahit na ang pangit-pangit mo!"

The two had another confrontation and it was overhead by Betty's father (played by Ronaldo Valdez). This caused her dad to have a heart attack. Betty's mother (Ai-Ai delas Alas) is already distraught by the escalating hospital bills.

During the January 7 episode of I Love Betty La Fea, a contest was launched by Catalina (Candy Pangilinan) and Eduardo (Pooh). They are searching for a girl who deserves to be given a makeover. After interviewing several ladies, it was Betty's turn to be asked: "Why do you want to be beautiful?"

Before she answered, several embarrassing incidents that happened in Betty's life were flashed. While growing up, Betty was bullied and made fun of because of her unusual looks. Now, she wants to show her inner beauty by joining the "New You" contest.

Because of her touching speech, Betty is chosen as one of three ladies who will compete for a makeover and the grand prize of P5 million.

I Love Betty La Fea airs weeknights on ABS-CBN's Primetime Bida.
