After meeting the entertainment media last June 13 at the SM City SkyDome, the contestants of GMA-7's newest reality talent search Are You The Next Big Star have already started with the intense competition.
The "Circle of 16" female contenders were given the chance to perform in front of a live audience last Saturday, June 20 at the SM City Valenzuela.
Kicking off the contest proper was 19 year-old lounge singer Camille Cortez of Antipolo City. She serenaded the audience with a local hit from Julianne titled "Tulak ng Bibig." Alexa Ortega, 19, a former TV host from La Union City sang "Beautiful Girls," popularized by R&B singer Jojo. The 17-year-old Batanguena Cara Quiapos performed by (You Give Me) Fever by Peggy Lee. 16-year-old Rachel Gabreza, a high school graduate from Cebu City, sang "Respect" by Aretha Franklin.
Fashion-conscious entertainment host Zyrene Parsad, 23, performed a Smokey Mountain original, "Kailan." Christine Allado, an 18-year-old theater actress from Quezon City, sang "Infatuation" by Christina Aguillera. Freshman engineering student from Marikina City Shane Tarun, 16, sang one of Beyonce's hit song "Dangerously In Love." Frencheska Farr, 16-year-old stunner from Las Pinas City, sang an OPM hit by Lani Misalucha titled "Bukas Na Lang Kita Mamahalin."
This Saturday, June 27, the "Circle of 16" male contenders Geoff Taylor, PJ Gonzales, Bobby Solomon, Jay Perillo, Anton Cruz, Greggy Santos, Justin Francis, and Alex Castro will show off their singing talents for the crowd and the judges: Danny Tan, Mon Faustino, Annie Quintos, Randy Santiago and Pops Fernandez.
The Circle of 16 will perform on the following dates and venues: June27 at SM City Bicutan, June28 at SM City Bacoor, July 4 at SM City Manila, July 5 at SMSouthmall, and July 12 at SM City SanLazaro.
