MTV pays tribute to Michael Jackson as it turns the spotlights high and bright one last time to the King of Pop. The music channel revisits the influential and monumental career of the legendary artist with over 12-hour special programs, showing some of his never-before-seen footage. MTV will switch to an all-Jackson programming from 9 am until 12 midnight this Sunday, July 12, 2009.
The American recording star died of at the UCLA Medical Center last June 25, 2009. He was then rehearsing for his This is It concert series that was scheduled to take place in London this July.
The seventh child of the Jackson family, Michael first became known to the public in 1968 as the youngest member of The Jackson 5. In 1971, he started a solo career and would eventually be dubbed as the "King of Pop." Jackson's 1982 album Thriller—which included the blockbuster hits "Beat It," "Billie Jean" and "Thriller"—is considered the best-selling album of all time, with an estimated 50 million copies sold worldwide.
On July 12, viewers will be given an opportunity to get a comprehensive run through of Michael Jackson's life.
