The stage is set, the hosts and performers have been chosen, all 84 gorgeous candidates are in, and the universe's most coveted crown awaits its new queen. Will the Philippines' bet—Ms. Bianca Manalo—bring home the title as the next Miss Universe?
Find out this Monday (August 24) as ABS-CBN brings you to the crowning moment of the much-awaited "Miss Universe 2009" live via satellite in the Bahamas at 9:30 a.m. A primetime telecast airs the same day via Velvet (SkyCable channel 53) at 8 p.m., and on Tuesday (August 25), 8 p.m. on Studio 23.
The 22-year old flight attendant already proved to be an early crowd favorite as she wowed the audience with her presence and performance during the recent Miss Universe pre-pageant. Bianca showed off her statuesque figure (standing 5'10") during the swimsuit competition that night. During the evening-gown competition, she elegantly carried her aqua-blue gown, which was created by a famous Colombian designer.
Bianca is also getting good reviews online, being one of the candidates with the highest ratings in the official Miss Universe website where she ranks 7th. The last time the Philippines won the Miss Universe title was in 1973 with Margie Moran, four years after Gloria Diaz won the title in 1969.
Filipinos here and abroad earnestly hope that Bianca becomes the successor to Miss Universe 2008 Dayana Mendoza in the highly-anticipated pageant to be held at Atlantis, Paradise Island in the Bahamas, to be hosted by Access Hollywood co-anchor Billy Bush and Celebrity Apprentice star Claudia Jordan.
Among the distinguished international panel of judges who face the difficult task of choosing the winner is actor and producer Dean Cain. International superstar Flo Rida is also set to perform his hits, "Right Round" and "Jump" for the Swimsuit Competition portion of the telecast. David Guetta and Kelly Rowland will set the mood for the Evening Gown portion with their hit single, "When Love Takes Over."
For more updates, stay tuned to Umagang Kay Ganda, TV Patrol World, Bandila, and ANC as ABS-CBN's senior sports correspondent Dyan Castillejo, who is now in Bahamas, constantly keeps in touch with Bianca to bring you the latest news about her and the pageant.
This via satellite coverage marks the third consecutive year that ABS-CBN was chosen by the Miss Universe organization as its exclusive media partner here in the Philippines. ABS-CBN also aired the 1994 Miss Universe pageant held in Manila, where Miss India Shusmita Sen took home the crown.
