Magnifico (2003) is just one of the Lenten offerings of ABS-CBN for this Holy Week. It tells the story of a family in Laguna struggling to survive.
The heartwarming tale is told from the perspective of a 9-year-old boy named Magnifico (Jiro Manio). His kuya (Danilo Barrios) has lost his scholarship to study in Manila while his little sister Helen (Isabella De Leon) suffers from cerebral palsy. The family learns that their Lola has advanced stomach cancer. They cannot afford her medicine; neither, on the other hand, can they afford her burial expenses, which would total nearly P30,000. Magnifico will be aired on the Kapamilya network on Black Saturday, April 7 (2:30 pm - 4 pm)
ABS-CBN will also be bringing back the Maalala Mo Kaya (MMK) episode starring Jodi Sta. Maria and Baron Geisler entitled "Sto. Nino de Cebu." It will be aired on Good Friday (8:30 pm - 9:30 pm).
Another moving episode from MMK is "Poon," which was first aired last October 13, 2006. Nash Aguas, Joel Torre, and Dina Bonnevie star in the touching story of a boy named Jun—a living proof that miracles do happen. Jun was diagnosed with a fatal brain tumor. Living in poverty, his parents relied on the help of a non-government organization because they could not bring him to Manila to receive proper treatment. It was only when his condition got worse that they brought him to the hospital. The doctors gave Jun only 48 hours to live. The boy's parents decided to bring him back home to Bicol, believing that their son is dead. But when they arrived in their hometown, they got the surprise of their life. "Poon" will be aired on Channel 2 on Black Saturday, April 7 (8:00 pm - 9:00 pm).
Another show to
complete the Lenten season observance is the Seven Last Words on Good
Friday (April 6, 12:30 pm - 2 pm).
