Love and honor. These are the major catalysts that will move the characters and the story of the newest ABS-CBN Kapamilya teleserye Magkano Ang Iyong Dangal?
This upcoming afternoon soap opera features Bangs Garcia in her first lead role, indie film actor Sid Lucero, and Rayver Cruz in his first mature role.
Under the direction of Chito Roño, Magkano ang Iyong Dangal will revolve around three childhood friends who have great love for one another—Carmela (Bangs Garcia), Nilo (Sid Lucero) and Troy (Rayver Cruz). But the conflict happens when one’s heart overcomes one’s rational mind.
SYNOPSIS. Carmela (Bangs) is a self-sacrificing daughter whose first and only love is Nilo (Sid). In the beginning, a tragedy will befall upon Carmela, separating her from Nilo. But even distance will not stop them from loving each other.
But fate will also bring their childhood friend Troy (Rayver) back into their lives, further complicating the relationship of the couple. Carmela will soon learn how far she could go in the name of love—even if it means giving up her honor.
Indecent proposals have become a taboo topic in society. Can you actually buy love? At what price?
"It’s really basically a love story between three people. They have great love for one another. At dun nag-uumpisa yung conflict. Minsan may nangyayaring hindi maganda, dahil na rin doon sa maling interpretation of page-express ng love," explains Direk Chito Roño, whose last TV show was the fantasy series called Spirits in 2004.
MORE REALITY SCENES. Set in the Shoe Capital of the Philippines, Marikina City, Direk Chito says he wants Magkano Ang Iyong Dangal? to veer away from stereotypical teleserye concepts. He wanted to avoid glamour and base the plot on reality.
"Actually, ang ginawa ko dito sobrang melo-dramatic ang istorya. At least, my actors try to work na ma-anchor ’yong mga pinag-gagagawa nila sa totoo. Especially my first part, yung flashback, ginawa ko siyang halos totoo. Sabi ko nga, ’Gawin nating mas totoo.’ Gawin nating mas totoo yung pagmamahal ng ina at anak, nakikita mo talaga siyang nagdadaan sa putik-putik. I mean, huwag na nating i-glamorize para maamoy mo, maramdaman mo ’yong mundong pinanggalingan nila."
Carmela’s character works in a shoe shop owned by Troy’s family. The young man is so in love with Carmela that it turns into an obsession. Troy becomes a successful businessman and he intends to win back Carmela--no matter what the price.
ABS-CBN’s version of Magkano Ang Iyong Dangal? will be unrelated to the story presented on the big screen. Laurice Guillen’s 1989 movie was topbilled back then by Zsa Zsa Padilla, Christopher de Leon, and Joel Torre. The show’s executive producer, Desirey Juan, explains that the Kapamilya Network only bought the title rights from Seiko Films.
Magkano Ang Iyong Dangal? also features Bing Pimentel and Emilio Garcia as the parents of Troy (Rayver) and Mickey Ferriols as the mother of Carmela (Bangs). Debraliz Valasote, Beverly Salviejo, Nikki Valdez, Paw Diaz, Bettina Carlos, Makisig Morales, Martin Rosario, Ella Cruz, and Joshua Dionisio also play supporting roles in this afternoon romance-drama.
Find out how far Carmela is willing to go for her first and only love Nilo. Magkano Ang Iyong Dangal? will air its pilot episode by January 25, 2010 on ABS-CBN’s Hapon-tastic block.
