Stage actor and composer Vince De Jesus recalled watching the reality game series Wipeout on cable television. The multi-talented Vince, at the time, had no inkling that he would someday host the same program he enjoyed watching repeatedly through several re-runs.
"Interesting kasi, e, masama mang sabihin pero nakakatawa pag nakikita mong sumesemplang... You feel guilty after mong tumawa pero I guess that’s the concept of the show," Vince told PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) last March 5 at Aresi restaurant in Quezon City.
Although Vince is not entirely new when it comes to facing an audience—having done stage plays in the past along with television appearances most notably the situational comedy program, Camera Café—he considers himself as a behind-the-scenes professional rather than lead star material.
"Akala ko wrong number," joked Vince, pertaining to his reaction when he was called up on the phone to host the GMA-7 show.
"Sabi ko ay hindi ko pakakawalan ’to [the hosting job]. Kasi aminin natin ang sarap mag-host lalo na ’pag alam mo ’yong personality mo bagay dun sa show. Ganun ang personality ko kasi madaldal and ang training kasi sa theater improvisation so kung ano lang yong lumabas. Yon nga lang kailangan mong mag-ingat sa sasabihin mo, buti na lang taped."
FIRST TIME HOST. Wipeout is an international reality series featuring 24 daring American contestants who will all go head-to-head through four rounds of hilarious yet physically demanding challenges in the tradition of Takeshi’s Castle.
It is not fair though to compare Wipeout to Takeshi’s Castle as the former is more modern boasting with new obstacles for maximum fun and challenge.
The "Wipeout Champion" will receive a grand prize of $50,000 along with the honor of knowing that he or she outlasted 23 other contestants.
Joining Vince in hosting Wipeout is actor and new dad, Paolo Contis.
"’Pag napapanood ko siya I’ve always thought that he was one of the more intelligent actors. Merong natural sense of humor, actually very wicked and sense of humor niya, very witty, ang bilis. Saka hindi nahihiya, he’s not afraid of making fun of himself. He is very comfortable of who he is so I get that cowboy attitude from him," Vince said about Paolo.
Complementing the tandem of Vince and Paolo is StarStruck V Avenger Nina Kodaka who will interview Pinoy viewers about their predictions regarding the turnout of the the challenges as well ask people’s opinions about the 24 contestants.
Watch the pilot episode of Wipeout this coming Monday, March 15, before Family Feud on GMA-7.
