As the reality talent search comes to an end, Crystal Bowersox and Lee DeWyze will be battling it out in a showdown that will determine the next American Idol.
Last week, heartthrob blues guitarist Casey James got the lowest number of votes and was eliminated from the competition.
That cleared the way for a sing off between Crystal, the one with the raspy-beautiful voice, and Lee, the rocker, this Wednesday, May 26, 6 pm, on Q Channel 11. The IDOL stage this time will be at the NOKIA Theatre in Los Angeles.
The season finale, meanwhile, will air on GMA-7 on Thursday, May 27, live via satellite, at 8 am. The replay will air on Q Channel 11 at 7 pm. The celebration also includes special performances, surprise guests, and the season’s Top 12 finalists who will reunite on stage shortly before this season’s winner is revealed.
"I’m very appreciative of this whole experience," Lee, 24, said in a press statement. "Truthfully, there’s more than just getting up there and performing every week. It’s the people back at home—and the people everywhere—who are voting for me and supporting me. Without them, I wouldn’t be here. Going back home and getting to see all the people that will be there is going to be really awesome."
Crystal, 24, added, "I come from a small town where everyone knows everyone—it’s a really tight-knit community. Everyone’s incredibly excited for me, and I couldn’t be more excited for them. I’ve heard that things were looking pretty dismal back home, and now everyone is rallying because they have something to believe in. It’s amazing that it can be me who lifts the spirits of the people in my hometown. I’m forever grateful for their support and love, and I can’t wait to come home and see everybody."
Crystal, the young mom from Elliston, Ohio, has been one of the frontrunners since she wowed judges Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson, Kara DioGuardi and Ellen DeGeneres and the viewers during Hollywood Week. But the earthy singer/songwriter who also plays the guitar has recently had a string of lukewarm responses from the judges.
Lee, on the other hand, from Mount Prospect, Illinois, had great results the past few weeks. However, Crystal came back on top during the Top 4 performance night when she sang a knockout version of "I’m Alright" while Lee faltered with "Kiss from a Rose."
Can Lee out-sing Crystal? Can Crystal again deliver a knock out performance? From more than 100,000 hopefuls who auditioned, it has now come down to just two finalists. It’s going to be a tough, all-out battle for the right to become the next American Idol.
Catch the last performance night this Wednesday, May 26, 6 pm (with same day replay at 8 pm) on Q Channel 11. The finale will air live via satellite at 8 am on GMA-7, with replay at 7 pm on Q Channel 11.
