Andi Eigenmann reacts to her tag as ABS-CBN’s Heiress of Drama

"Hindi mo na kailangan mag-indie, ang payo niya [Sid] sa akin, earn your title, earn your own name at hindi mo kailangan sundan ang footsteps namin," says Andi Eigenmann about the advice given to her by her brother Sid Lucero. Andi stars in the revamped ABS-CBN show, Your Song Presents.

When ABS-CBN decided to revamp Your Song from being a mini-series to a drama anthology show, management decided that Andi Eigenmann was suited to kick off the new format of the Sunday afternoon series.

As a result, Your Song Presents: Andi landed on 4th place in the Top 10 most watched programs nationwide when the show aired its pilot episode last October 10. According to data from Kantar Media/TNS culled from national households, the pilot episode registered a rating of 11 percent. The said episode pitted Andi in a dramatic episode shot in prison with her real-life mother, Jaclyn Jose.

This Sunday, October 17, she is cast as a young girl who has a hidden relationship with a waiter (portrayed by Felix Roco).

Andi says that she looks forward to the upcoming episodes that will test her versatility as an actress. "They’ve said na there’s gonna be a horror, a romantic-comedy, there’s gonna be [an episode] where I’m a doll that will come to life. Basically, ’yong mga kwento po ng bawat episode, iba-iba ang characters compared sa previous [projects] ko.

How does she feel about being chosen to topbill ABS-CBN’s new anthology show?

"Noong nalaman ko po what this drama anthology is all about, nagulat po talaga ako at saka na-overwhelm. Kasi, akala ko po noong kinausap ako about doing Your Song, akala ko po talaga for next year siya. Kasi, siyempre, marami naman pong iba na deserving to do this drama anthology, who proved more than what I have. They’ve been in the industry for way longer than I have been," Andi pointed out in the press conference of the show held recently.

"’Yon nga po, they chose to rush my part and do it as the first one that will launch this special. Sobra pong na-overwhelm ako. Naisip ko, bakit po ako, kasi parang walang meaning kung ako ang mauuna kasi hindi naman po ako isang Kim Chiu or Bea Alonzo, they’ve been in the industry for more than a year. But then, a lot of people have been telling me na through Agua Bendita, I’ve proven myself and I’ve done a lot to show them what I can do.

"For me, iniisip ko lang po is that I want to show people that I can do more because that’s what I’m in this industry for. That’s the reason why I’m in this industry because I want to do my craft and I want to improve and improve through time."

The 20-year-old actress admitted that she felt pressured when she was dubbed by ABS-CBN as the Heiress of Drama.

"Sobra pong nape-pressure ako," said Andi. "Probably because I didn’t expect something like this. It’s all happening so fast to me and everything seems so surreal. Then again, if that’s the way it is, I’m just gonna accept every opportunity and every blessing that’s been given to me because this is what I wanted anyway.

"So, even if it’s unbelievable that I’m getting it... You know, I didn’t get this overnight, I must say. This wasn’t handed to me on a silver platter. I’ve gone through so much just to get here."

She feels challenged to show her best since executives of the Kapamilya Network have placed a great deal of trust in her acting ability. "All I can do on my part is continue proving to you that I deserve what you gave me and that you won’t regret this."

When asked to describe herself, she simply said, "I’m just Andi--a free-spirited teenager. Even if I’m working now, which is a way to, you know, buy stuff that I want or provide for my living, I’m still a kid. I still wanna have fun and do things that normal teenagers do. I’m still a normal person. I’m just an artist, the only difference among the majority."

Andi is grateful to her mother Jaclyn Jose for teaching her but still allowing her to develop her own personality.

"Pagdating naman sa acting part, doon naman dumating ang pag-a-advise niya sa akin since na-witness na niya how I was. So, she saw where I could improve in and that’s where she came in. Actually, tinutulungan niya lang po ako, she gives me advice or tips pagdating sa pagdadala or pag-switch ng units or nuances. And she treats me as an individual. I’m her daughter, my mom loves me, she raised me well. But my mom knows that I’m an adult. I’m growing up to be the person that I am on my own because she raised me to learn how to be an individual and be the person who I want to be."

When asked if she requested any Kapamilya stars to be her leading man, she reveals, "Si Echo [Jericho Rosales] my dreams! Si Echo, lagi ko siyang sinasabi kasi parang siya ang showbiz crush ko. Halos lahat sila kilala ko na before pa ako mag-artista, so wala nang...

"But Coco [Martin], gusto ko siya maka-work kasi we’re good friends. And because of his good acting skills. Coco is like a brother to me."

TACKLING TEENAGE PREGNANCY. For the first time Andi will be paired with Felix Roco. The actor, who also comes from a showbiz clan, is currently part of ABS-CBN’s afternoon series Rosalka.

This Sunday in Your Song, Andi will play Vivian, a young girl who hails from a wealthy family. She gets everything that she wants. However, she has a hidden relationship with their restaurant’s waiter, Edgar (Felix). Their relationship will be revealed when Vivian decides to declare her pregnancy. This will lead her parents to disown her. Gentleman as he is, Edgar will take the responsibility and shall bring Vivian to their humble home. But, will Vivian endure living the exact opposite of her luxurious life? Or will she give up eventually?

Your Song Presents Andi
airs this Sunday after ASAP XV on ABS-CBN.
