’Philippine Idol’ journey ends for Miguel Mendoza

Miguel Medoza sang Frank Sinatra’s "I’ve Got You Under My Skin" as his farewell song in Philippine Idol.

Miguel Mendoza was voted out of Philippine Idol last night, November 27; leaving Mau Marcelo, Jan Nieto and Gian Magdangal to battle it out for the last two spots to become the first Philippine Idol.

Philippine Idol judges Ryan "Mr. C" Cayabyab, Francis M. and Pilita "Mamita" Coralles all agree that Gian, Mau and Jan should be in the finals.

Despite his departure, Miguel will not go home empty-handed as the Maestro, Mr. C, promised to write a song for the 17-year-old hopeful. Miguel said in an interview by Ryan Agoncillo that his experience in Philippine Idol made his family members closer. Miguel sang Frank Sinatra’s "I’ve Got You Under My Skin" for his last performance.

Before being voted out of the competition, the crowd went wild as Idol frontrunner Mau was again put in the danger zone, joining Miguel and Jan at the bottom three. Jan was the first to be declared safe by host Ryan Agoncillo. Like in previous episodes, Mau had problems with the voting public despite the strong approval of the three judges.

Later on, Ryan asked Mau to point to the couch and asked her: "Kanino ka kinakabahan?" Mau called the name of Miguel. The crowd again felt anxious but when Miguel was voted out, the audience heaved a sigh of relief.

Mau is the last woman standing in the first ever Philippine Idol. Mamita said of Mau: "You’re becoming more beautiful." Francis M., on the other hand, said: "Matanggal na lahat, wag lang ikaw." Mau brought the house down with her own rendition of "Waray-Waray" during the Big Band theme of Idol last Sunday.

After the performance and elimination nights on Sunday and Monday, December 3 and 4, the two remaining contestants will face off for the finale to be held on December 9 and 10 at the Araneta Coliseum.
