Thanks to the success of the hilarious tandem, Ariel and Maverick, in the award-winning gag show Misadventures of Maverick and Ariel (ABC-5), Ariel Villasanta thought of working for his mother’s fervent wish to become "sikat."
Ang layunin daw talaga ng show ay pahabain pa ang buhay ng born- comedian na si Mommy Elvie, who really amazed us when PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) met and talked with her. At age, 79, she still possesses clear vision, very good hearing, and a sense of humor that is very original.
Gagawa pa nga ako ng commercial ng ice cream," jokes Mommy Elvie as she remembers what her father had always told her.
Young director Aleah Aliporo sees this as a work of art and a work of the heart. Besides, isn’t this a good show for us to really share with our oldies the best attention and love they deserve?"
Mommy Elvie is the sister of Joey de Leon’s mother, Mrs. Emma Ramos-de Leon. Married to a former civil engineer, Mommy Elvie worked for the Comelec for four decades—"noong malinis pa ang eleksyon at pulitika, ha!" she blurted out.
In the said gag show, she instantly gained a legion of followers (mostly young males) who enjoy her zany antics. In fact, there were students who paid her a surprise visit in their residence in Sampaloc on her birthday, complete with flowers and cakes.
We experienced the same admiration when she was presented to the entertainment press last Friday night, June 8, at Goodah restaurant in Libis, Quezon City.
She is an avid fan of comedy legends (most of whom are gone) and her ardent wish is to have a scene with comedy king Dolphy.
Mommy Elvie’s Problematic Show is a no-script show. The star of the show admits she cannot memorize her lines anymore, but she is quick and smart enough to follow instructions. With Nicole Hiyala, DJ of Love Radio, as Ariel’s co-host, this is a show-within-a-show as it tries to solve the basic problems of common people.
May naka-remote na studio for Mommy Elvie, habang may roaming "booth" around the metropolis asking people’s problems.
We had a glimpse of its initial episode, and indeed it is something new and different. It begins airing on ABC-5 on June 19.
"Kung kailangan kong ibenta ang mga kotse ko, o anumang naipundar ko para lang muling maging blooming ang aura ng nanay ko, gagawin ko!" ang pagwawakas ni Ariel, the devoted son who might just strike a gold mine in his mom.
