Mara Clara stars "level up" their performances for Book 2

(L-R) Albie Casiño, Kathryn Bernardo, John Manalo and Julia Montes of Mara Clara

Now that Mara Clara has started its Book 2, viewers can expect more drama and confrontation scenes between the lead stars portrayed by Kathryn Bernardo and Julia Montes. This is because of the reversal of fortune in the lives of Mara (Kathryn) and Clara (Julia). Mara was given a huge party for her 16th birthday while Clara did not have a luxurious bash.

Even John Manalo and Albie Casiño are expected to "level up" their performance in this TV series that has been doing well in national TV ratings based on data from Kantar Media.

Last February 3, Mara Clara earned its highest national rating of 36.8%.

How would Kathryn and Julia feel if they were in the same situation as Mara and Clara?

Julia says it is a challenge for her to portray a kontrabida in ABS-CBN’s remake of the TV series.

In the latest episode of the soap opera, it seems that the character of Clara is resisting her new life. In fact, Gary (Jhong Hilario) locks Clara (Julia) inside a room because she insisted on going back to the home of the Del Valles.

The following day, Clara declared, "Kahit anong pilit n’yo, babalik at babalik ako sa bahay namin. Hinding-hindi n’yo ako mapipigilan."

ONSCREEN PARTNERS TO REAL-LIFE PARTNERS? In the original series topbilled by Judy Ann Santos and Gladys Reyes, the lead actresses eventually formed relationships with their onscreen partners, Wowie de Guzman and Christopher Roxas, respectively.

Juday and Wowie became a couple but they broke up. The actress is now married to Ryan Agoncillo. Gladys and Christopher got married and now have three children together.

Do they think that they would also fall in love with each other on the set? "Nagtatrabaho na kami ngayon para may pang-gatas na kami ni Julia," joked John about his leading lady.

He then continued in a serious tone: "Wala naman pong imposible.

ON SHOUTOUT. Last January, ABS-CBN Senior Vice President for TV Entertainment Linggit Tan announced that the stars of Shoutout have one month to "shape up" or else their show would be cancelled.

Shoutout started airing on ABS-CBN in November 29, 2010.

Mara Clara stars Kathryn, Julia and John Manalo used to be part of the Kapamilya Network’s teen-oriented variety show but they were pulled out already because they have become too busy with their soap opera.
