ABS-CBN will soon air Minsan Lang Kita Iibigin, an original TV series about military soldiers and rebel soldiers. This TV show was shot in various locations including Tanay, Rizal; Antipolo; Marikina; and Pampanga.
In an interview with The Freeman published last February 3, Coco shared details about his army training that left him with scars.
He narrated: "Sobrang hirap ng pinagdaanan ko but it really helped me to portray my character best.
In his previous soap opera, Tayong Dalawa, Coco made his mark as the antagonist Ramon. In fact, he won Best Drama Actor in the 2009 Star Awards for Television. He was also given the Presidential Jury Award for Excellence in Acting by the academe-based group Gawad TANGLAW.
Coco was quoted as saying: "Every role na ginaganampanan ko, iba’t ibang character. This time, iba naman.
The ABS-CBN actor will be paired with Andi Eigenmann and Maja Salvador in this teleserye directed by Ruel Bayani. Other cast members are John Estrada, Amy Austria, Boots Anson Roa, Ronaldo Valdez, Tonton Gutierrez, and Ms. Lorna Tolentino.
As a young boy, Alexander (Coco) met Kate (Maja), the daughter of rebels who were killed by government soldiers. Their paths cross again when Coco’s character, 2nd Lieutenant Alexander Del Tierro, is tasked to penetrate the underground movement by pretending to be a rebel. Will he become sympathetic to rebels or will he remain a loyal soldier like Gabriel (Andi)?
Why did they choose to feature the clash between military soldiers and rebel soldiers?
Coco’s manager, Biboy Arboleda, explained: "Matagal na naming nire-research ’yan, matagal na naming bine-brainstorm. It’s interesting. Hindi pa siya nagagawa on Philippine television. It’s original. It will tackle the military and the rebels.
DID COCO WALK OUT ON THE SET? Some blind items have implied that a lead star of an ABS-CBN walked out while taping and clues were pointing to Coco.
When Coco’s manager was asked about this, he explained: "That is not true. They were taping the whole day and according to the executive producer, they were taping in Rizal. It was raining the whole day.
"Ang cut-off ni Coco was at 5 a.m. that morning. Hindi nagkaintinidihan ang staff na pag 5 a.m., Coco has to step out of the set kasi masama na ang pakiramdam. Kaya ang lumalabas dun, nag walk out raw kasi he was in his car at paalis na. Then they realized na meron pa siyang eksena na ite-take."
The ABS-CBN executive summed up, "It was a very strange case of miscommunication."
According to Biboy, there is no problem between Coco and the staff of Minsan Lang Kita Iibigin.
