Opinion will be the centerpiece weekday nights at Aksyon TV UHF Channel 41 as the TV5 news channel launches Tayuan Mo at Panindigan, a talk show that aims to discuss pertinent issues of the day.
Headlined by director Joey Reyes, broadcaster Aida Sy, and TV host and columnist Lourd de Veyra, Tayuan Mo at Panindigan aims to analyze issues important to Filipinos through fiery and unedited commentary.
The show also has controversial Reproductive Health Bill advocate Carlos Celdran onboard to take the opinions of people on the street.
The show was launched on-air last February 21. Topics already discussed include social climbing, gossip, and the RH Bill.
Special guests also helped enliven each episode. Personalities who have guested include Dra. Vicky Belo, Risa Hontiveros-Baraquel, and Illac Diaz.
The show’s format is an unbarred discussion. In a presscon held this afternoon, March 23, at a restaurant in Quezon City, the show’s cast revealed that disagreements sometimes ensue because of the unbridled format.
"We disagree on a lot of things, but there are some opinions I tend to agree with," said Aida Sy, whose specialty is political issues.
"May mga isyu na hindi naiintindihan ni Ms. Aida... tulad ng Jejemon at Bekimon," said Lourd de Veyra, the show’s resident culture expert.
Before the show ends, each host would state their opinion on the issue in under one minute.
"Nangangahulugan, to conclude the show, bawat isa sa amin mag-e-express ng opinion tungkol sa isyu," said Direk Joey Reyes, an expert on film and the field of entertainment.
To test each of the host’s polarities, the press threw issues at them and asked their separate stands.
Surprisingly, the three tend to agree on the country’s landmark issues.
The three agree that the death penalty should be instituted. Only Lourd has reservations, saying that the death penalty is an ideal, but should not be applied while the present judicial system is less than perfect.
The three also agree that divorce is long overdue.
However, they disagreed on the issue of celibacy of Catholic priests. Direk Joey said celibacy is the cause of child abuse. Aida said the priests should stay celibate because this was a given circumstance before they entered the priesthood. Lourd said all religions enforce a certain sacrifice on its leaders, and celibacy is the "sacrifice" the priests would have to endure.
Lastly, the three agree on the hottest topic today—the passage of the Reproductive Health bill.
"That’s more or less unanimous. We disagree with all the priests and all the saviors of the planet," commented Direk Joey.
Tayuan Mo at Panindigan airs Monday to Friday, 10 a.m., on Aksyon TV UHF Channel 41.
